I'm very excited to announce I'll be coming back to massage therapy in 2020 for mobile treatments. I'll be firing up the Relaxi-Taxi and visiting you in home, bringing along all the comforts you'd find in my old treatment space. Prenatal, postpartum, remedial exercise, relaxation, sports injury, chronic pain... you name it - I'm on it โœ…

As I am still spending time with my two little ones before school starts up in September, I'll likely be taking Fridays to zip around town to get you back on your treatment plans. More details to come, but message me for any questions or advanced booking.

It's true! You know how I know? I've seen a lot of bodies in a lot of different states - old, young, pregnant, postpartum, strong, frail, big, small... It's been just over a week since Emerald's birth ๐Ÿ’–
This experience was vastly different from two years ago when Elliott was born, and for those women struggling with the thought of a c-section, I will tell you that you CAN have a beautiful birth experience in an operating room.
When I chose to have a repeat c-section I knew I needed to put measures in place to get the experience I wanted. I waited extra time just to get the phenomenal OB I met (but wasn't under the care of) during my last pregnancy, and he put me in touch with the team of professionals that would create the warmest welcome possible for Emerald. With the help of my OB and midwife, Emerald was birthed and placed directly on my chest and experienced delayed cord clamping. She stayed there for half an hour while my operation wrapped up, and my husband and I gushed over her full head of hair. From there, my lactation consultant met me in the recovery room where Emmie crawled up my chest and latched via baby-led breastfeeding. We stayed in hospital for three nights, worked out some feeding kinks and have been settling in nicely at home. My recovery for this c-section has been smoother than the first time around, as my body isn't exhausted from labour and I have a way better understanding of what to expect. While I'm not looking forward to my first few weeks of self massage on my scar (๐Ÿ˜–), it's healing quiet nicely and there's minimal pain. I hope this helps the mamas who might be worried about a cold and sterile c-section birth experience. Advocate for yourself and find the people who can help bring your birth wishes to fruition. It can 100% be a positive experience with the right team and mind frame from everyone involved. Happy one week birthday, Emmie! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ

Elliott is with his grandparents and I have been firmly planted on the couch with nothing but Netflix on the TV and little Emmie Rose on my chest. I'm using the Bellies Inc Ab System again to support my core for the next seven weeks, and despite feeling near normal post-op, I'm keeping at a slow pace. African peanut stew for dinner tonight! #freezermeal success!

#40weekspregnant with Elliott and just over #36weekspregnant this time around. She's likely not a bigger baby, but rather I have less muscle tone in my abdomen - the reason why we "pop" early with each subsequent pregnancy๐Ÿคฐ
There's four weeks and over 10lbs difference in these two pictures (gained more with Elliott), so it goes to show how much variation there is in each pregnancy!
This is also with my transverse abdominals engaged in both pics (this is NOT the same as "sucking in"). With poor muscle tone in TVA, your belly will hang much lower and your back will likely be rather achyโšก

I hate to break it to you, but it's true. Your OB or midwife has a wealth of knowledge in pregnancy and birth, but it's not their job to care for you postpartum. Instead of pointing the finger and laying blame, let's chalk it up to it not being their wheelhouse ๐Ÿคท A dentist doesn't treat you for nutrition issues, even though it directly relates to dental health. The same goes for your primary care provider during pregnancy. Their job to to keep you and baby healthy during pregnancy and birth, and then it's time for a perinatal manual therapist to take over! I'm still referring out to the best of the best for my patients who will miss me while I'm on maternity leave๐ŸคฐIf you need the name of someone who can help you postpartum, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction๐Ÿ‘‰

Way sped up with boomerang, but this is what engaging your transverse abdominal muscles looks like ๐Ÿ™Œ this (not so) simple exercise, coupled with pelvic floor engagement is key for prenatal exercise and postpartum rehabilitation. These muscles go around you like a corset and support your trunk during all your fun new activities of daily living as a mother! "Go do your kegels" is simply not enough. This is often the advice women get from doctors when they tell them about pelvic pain or dysfunction. Nearly half of all women do kegels incorrectly - and often do the opposite of a kegel - just because they've never been taught how. On top of this, kegels aren't a magical cure-all for pelvic floor dysfunction. They can often exacerbate a person's symptoms ๐Ÿคฆ Moral of the story: see a pelvic health manual therapist for your pelvic floor dysfunction. We'll point you in the right direction ๐Ÿ™Œ

Seriously. After any surgery, injury, or body trauma we need a time for rest and recovery. Staying active before and during your pregnancy will lead to an easier recovery, but taking time away from high impact exercise will do your body much better in the long run. I've posted this article on my GentleCore FB page, but reach out with any questions or appointment bookings you might have around returning to fitness after baby or keeping fit while pregnant. Remember! You're paying for this class and it's your body. For whatever reason, if the workout isn't feeling right โœจmodify itโœจ
I just did this entire class with modified abs, which means when people were on their back, I was on my side. When everyone else was down, I was up. I was the odd one out, but no one cares and I got a better workout for me and my specific situation. Not sure how to modify your favourite workouts? Book an appointment with me and we can replace your contraindicated exercises with remedial exercise that will work all the right muscles๐Ÿ’ช
