Back from the cottage. Decided I didn’t want to do groceries this week… (let’s be real. I barely set foot in grocery stores these days) but missed organic market pick up last Friday because I was away.

Thanks to smart meal prep and long lasting organic produce we have been getting by just fine. ⁣

Bowls are one of my fave, clean out your fridge and freezer meals that come together fast and easy. This one includes: ⁣

✅ Brown Rice⁣
✅ TLC Tempeh Bacon ⁣
✅ Broccoli stems (used the florets at the cottage) ⁣
✅ Snow peas (leftover from the cottage) ⁣
✅ Pickled beets (always have on hand) ⁣
✅ @greengoddessfromagerie marble cheese (obvi must have) ⁣
✅ Hummus ⁣
✅ Extra Virgin olive oil ⁣
✅ Hemp⁣

When we are not adequately nourished on the cellular level it makes sense that we will not have the energy or the desire to move our bodies. ⁣

It took me a long time to actually CRAVE the level of movement I did this morning let alone desire any movement in my life. ⁣

There is a reason a lot of us don’t want to move our bodies and it has NOTHING to do with being lazy and a lot more to do with our biochemistry and what’s happening in our bodies. ⁣

Today is the first day I killed my 45 minute full body kettlebell workout and I’m super proud because I have always struggled with strength training. Change doesn’t happen overnight (nor should it). ⁣

However, as a 40 year old (but young) woman, I know how important building muscle is for my future. ⁣

THE LEAN TISSUE I BUILD TODAY WILL SERVE ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. ⁣

But. Movement depends on proper nutrition, hydration and careful attention to other highly individualized factors like hormonal health and stress levels to name only a few. One size does NOT FIT ALL and timing is everything. ⁣

If you know me. Then you know…⁣

This girl LOVES THE SUN. ⁣

And I mean. There are so many reasons to love it and at the same time it’s so important balance your unprotected and protected sun time… ⁣


🌞The sun is legit VITAL to our health 🌞⁣

When our skin is exposed to sunlight, it begins to make its own vitamin D (our bodies are so insanely magical). ⁣

Vitamin D production is crucial to many body functions including a strong immune system, calcium absorption and maintaining healthy bones and teeth. ⁣

I always try and get at least 30 minutes of sunscreen free sunlight on as MUCH of my skin all over my body as possible as the more skin that is exposed, the more vitamin D your body will make, (making sure that you have a nice private space if you want to really get maximum sun exposure!). Your body will not make vitamin D when you are protected from UVA and UVB rays⁣

I am extremely careful NOT TO BURN and very mindful⁣ of using a natural broad sunscreen during prolonged sun exposure in peak hours. ⁣

I don’t use the word CHEAT when it comes to food. ⁣

There is not cheat meal. No cheat week. No Cheat snack. ⁣

This is because, like so many aspects of my life, I identify with the word FLUID. ⁣

Diet is fluid. This is because as our lives change, whether it’s for a day, a week or several years out diets will naturally change with too. These changes should be celebrated and accepted and not punished and come with guilt. ⁣

This week my diet is slightly changed because I am at the cottage. It includes more of the foods (like chips of course) that I normally don’t have in my day to day life. It also includes impromptu poutine or snacks at 10pm while playing cards. ⁣

This is not a cheat week. This is just a week that simply looks different than that of my normal routine. ⁣

I celebrate these weeks. ⁣

While taking care of my nutritional needs is a NON negotiable for me (be sure I am still getting all the nutrient dense, whole foods that my body needs to be well), so is removing the word cheat and guilt from my vocabulary when it comes to my diet. ⁣

My holistic nutrition practice is not only about helping you heal through food but it’s also largely about finding that positive personal relationship with food and making sure your emotional needs in terms of diet are being met too. ⁣

Life is too short to feel like you’re cheating and if you do feel this way the only person you’re cheating is yourself. Link in bio to learn how to work with me. ⁣

How universal that I get to spend today on the same dock (well, it’s been upgraded a lot over the years), staring at the same lake that you loved so much, the lake you always asked me to make sure you ended back at someday and eternally live at forever?

Happy Father’s Day. I used to always think after you were gone that I hope you’re still proud of me and how I’m choosing to live my life. Now I say I FU***NG KNOW you’re proud of me and how I’m living my life.
