Today is Blue Monday...

It has been said that the third Monday of January is the saddest day of the year. It coincides with the winter blues of dark and gloomy weather and the post-holiday stress related to financial pressures and lofty new year’s goals, but particularly for this year, we’re in the midst of the pandemic’s second wave.

To help you to overcome this day, we have some online resources for you:

Wellness Together Canada
Anxiety Canada
The LifeLine Canada Foundation
Peer Support Canada

MindBeacon

It has also been said that the best way to get through a slump is to get your body moving... so BIAYR will be hosting an exercise workshop on Wednesday, January 20 at 5pm. Let’s beat Blue Monday by getting together to exercise!

Tabirs - Toronto Acquired Brain Injury Rehab Specialists

A study done by the Ontario Brain Injury Association showed that 63% of people who suffered a TBI reported experiencing retrograde amnesia (a loss of memory of the events leading up to the injury) and 85% of people reported experiencing anterograde amnesia (a loss of memory of the events following the injury). This adds to a lot of the frustration and confusion felt by people experiencing a TBI following an injury, so it’s important to remember to be patient and kind to them as they struggle with lost memories.

Today is World Mental Health Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) explains that #WorldMentalHealthDay has the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of #mentalhealth.

'This year’s World Mental Health Day, on 10 October, comes at a time when our daily lives have changed considerably as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The past months have brought many challenges: for health-care workers, providing care in difficult circumstances, going to work fearful of bringing COVID-19 home with them; for students, adapting to taking classes from home, with little contact with teachers and friends, and anxious about their futures; for workers whose livelihoods are threatened; for the vast number of people caught in poverty or in fragile humanitarian settings with extremely limited protection from COVID-19; and for people with mental health conditions, many experiencing even greater social isolation than before. And this is to say nothing of managing the grief of losing a loved one, sometimes without being able to say goodbye.'

Today we honour the life of Rowan Stringer who tragically passed away due to second impact syndrome during a High School Rugby tournament. Her story serves as a constant reminder on the importance of raising awareness and educating people on the severity of concussions!

The money raised from this donation graphic will go towards our efforts to co-produce a 6-part multi-media series that will bring more education to people with lived experience and provide them with evidence-based information to help during the recovery process!

Please help raise money for this innovative project by taking a moment out of your day to share this graphic, and let’s work together to #challengethestigma surrounding concussions!
