Eco Mama Wellness Holistic Nutrition, Healthy Food Prep and Eco Friendly Products Why Use Cloth Diaper? You could save over $3,000.00 during the time period that you baby is in diapers. 1 baby = approx. $100 in diapers per month(not including the cost of wipes).

Let's say your baby uses diapers until the age of 3. $100 x 12months=$1200. $1200 x 3 years=$3600. Our diapers start at only $10.00. That is less than what you can buy the old style for. Plus our diapers are so easy. You just add your soaker inserts and snap and go. No unnecessary folding and pinning. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Plus you can re-use your cloth diapers for your next child or sell them online. Believe it or not, they have a good re-sale value. Plus not only are you saving a substantial amount of money, you are saving the landfills and saving your baby bottoms from sitting in an unnatural material that is full of chemicals that can prove to be very bad for their sensitive skin. These diapers are so soft that when it comes time for me to have to wear them I will be putting in a special order ;)

Garlic's up. #musicgarlic #garlic I #planted these this #spring instead of last fall when your supposed to. Not by choice either. By the time I went to plant them, the ground was already frozen. 🤣 I am very happy however that I still have #garlic and lots of it. Now to let it all dry so that I can save the biggest ones to plant in the fall. I will peel and freeze any that look like they didnt cure well and will #sprout. The rest will go up for sale or trade. Canada's higher COVID-19 death rate tied to better chronic disease control | CBC News

Some more food for thought. Lets take care of our health before another pandemic hits. If you are at risk for a disease, there are preventative measures you can take. Talk to a Holsitic Nutritionsit (we have them on staff and you get free nutritional advise in our stores) or book with an ND. A Dis"ease" is preventable and most times treatable with Holistic Health Care. If your concerned about Covid, your real concern should be the state of your health in the first place. Reach out to a Holistic Health Care Provider. There is help available.

More Canadians live longer with chronic disease, putting them at greater risk of dying from COVID-19, heart researchers say.

RE: Mandatory Mask wearing

Dear Mayor
I understand that City of Hamilton council members are considering passing a new bylaw requiring mandatory masks in all indoor public areas as per the advice of the Hamilton County Health Unit.

If this had been presented and implemented back in March, and imposed during the build up and peak period in “the curve”, it would have been more acceptable and made practical sense.

Now that the curve has flattened to the point of “flat line”, and case numbers are currently at two for the city and the county combined, it seems we are closing the barn door after the horse has already escaped.

Let’s ignore the actual, negligible statistics and assume the virus is as virulent and contagious as your health director is purporting. If this is the case, then every mask being worn becomes potentially contaminated in very little time, whether being worn in solitude or among a store full of shoppers. By virtue of the fact every breath potentially draws in contaminated, infectious particles against the front of a mask, and every exhale potentially pushes contaminated,
infectious particles against the face side of the mask, this potentially, and quickly becomes the most contaminated item any one of us can have on our person, or hanging from the rear view mirror awaiting the next point of use.

So here’s what I expect your council to fulfill as commitment of their concern for the health of the
general public...

1) Every public indoor area (all stores included) hand out appropriate, new face masks, provided for free by the City of Hamilton , no exceptions. This will be the ONLY way the general public can be assured contamination is not being transferred from store to store, home to store, store
to home, car to store, store to car, car to home, home to car, etc., etc..

2) Every public indoor area (all stores included) must have a medical grade disposal unit located at the exit, and, every patron must dispose of their masks upon leaving. Every time! Once again, this will eliminate the transfer of contaminates from store to store, store to car (rear view mirror decor), car to store, car to home, home to car, etc., etc.. This disposal bin and monitoring of mask disposal must be provided free by the City of Hamilton and not become incumbent on the merchant.

3) Failing to provide this level of service and concern for the general well being of City of Hamilton citizens renders the mandatory mask bylaw null and void. Setting all collateral health consequences aside as a result of mask wearing, requesting citizens to participate in an invalid campaign to minimize spread of a contagion during a “crisis” is fraudulent in nature, and inviting cause for liability suits against city and council.

Your consideration on this matter is duly required.

Process. This is one week since I posted my garden update video. Wow, what a difference and wow how my body is feeling it. All but 2.5 beds have been planted, everything has been weeded and random pots have been repurposed. Hopefully by next week I will have the rest planted and some of the seeds I planted over the weekend will start to emerge. @ Eco Mama Wellness

Vitamin D deficiency may be linked to more severe cases of COVID-19, studies suggest

Get outside and make your some Vitamin D. To do this, you need to be out in the sun without sunscreen. DO NOT stay out long enough to get burnt, that will defeat the purpose. You want to go out for a short amount of time in direct sunshine so that your skin just gets a tad pinkish. You know that sun kissed glow. 🌞 The oil that your skin produces from sun exposure then gets absorbed into your skin and transformed into that wonderful Vitamin D. Do dont shower as soon as you come inside. Let the oil work its magic.

If your still scared to venture outside of your home (which you shouldn't be, its actually safer outside in the fresh air) you can always come in to your local Health Food Store AKA Natures Source/Signature ♥️ and we can help you out. We also deliver locally for free with a $50 minimum order and offer curb side pick up.

Health Canada says that the UTI (Upper Tollerable Intake) for Vitamin D supplementation is 4,000 IU per day. Let's face it folks, we live in Canada and we are all deficient.

After 6 months of Vitamin D supplementation you should be getting your Vitamin D levels checked with your Dr. You do have to pay for this test but it is well worth it. At this point you will be able to access if your levels are in the correct range and you can adjust your supplementation accordingly. You should be getting your levels checked every 6 months to make sure your on the tight track.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/coronavirus/vitamin-d-deficiency-may-be-linked-to-more-severe-cases-of-covid-19-studies-suggest-1.4937535

Two recent studies have found an association between vitamin D deficiency and COVID-19 mortality rates, suggesting that not having enough of the micronutrient could lead to serious health complications if infected.

"Censorship and a free society cannot co-exist. It is as simple as that." Shawn Buckley continues in this short and decisive opinion, "The problem with censorship laws, is that it is the government that gets to decide what “truth” you will be allowed to access." We are, as individuals and a collective, moving through an unprecedented global crisis. A crisis with many degrees, facts and players—depending on who you ask. In response, we are seeing freedoms restricted in ways they have never been before. Are we, as Canadians, not capable of making good decisions? The Trudeau Government has announced that censorship laws are coming to prevent “misinformation”, and Members of Parliament have signalled their broad support of the measures. Writren by Veronica Qubrossi.

I could not have said this better myself.

Is the current global situation overwhelming? Absolutely.

Is our new reality permeating most of the world’s thoughts moment to moment? Yes.

Do we have reason to believe that more data needs to be collected (like antibody titres)? Sure do.

Should we advocate for that data being collected? Yep!

Do we have reason to believe that current standards of practice are harming individuals (like ventilator protocols)? Yes.

Should we speak up about these possibilities? If you have solid information, yes.

Do we have reason to believe that natural health products and practices can positively impact the resiliency of an individual and strengthen their terrain. Of course.

Should we promote this information? From reputable sources, yes.

Do we have reason to believe that the current strategy for managing this crisis will have devastating mental health and financial implications that aren’t being weighed equally against the risks of the contagion? For sure.

Should we activate within our circles and connect with our members of parliament to do our part to champion balanced risk assessment occurring. Please do!

Must we post denigrating words about other professions? Or conspiracy theories from discredited sources? Or conflate issues together? No

Newest garden bed. Yes this is an old dresser and no it will not last forever BUT it will serve as an inexpensive raised bed for the girls to plant what ever thier hearts desire in. We have started some lavender seeds and some nasturtium seed so we will see if they sprout.

Building a raised bed does not have to cost a lot of money. We used an old broken dresser as the structure and I filled the bottom with my old taxes (yes I do that) and old sticks and twigs from last season, plus some weeds I pulled from another bed. I filled the rest with a $12.99 bag of peat moss. This is not an ideal soil as it is very acidic and should be mixed with other soil and compost BUT it was an inexpensive fix to fill this bed for this year. Once the peat moss has soaked up all the water I'm going to add a thick top layer of my home made compost to add nutrients for the plants that will call this bed home.

If you want any gardening tips or tricks, please reach out. This is a fantastic way to keep your mind occupied in times like these.

I think every day should be Earth Day.

Pics of my grow room. :) I started late this year so my seedlings are still small but it's all good. I'm excited to see what goodness the girls and I will grow this season.

So far I have yellow onions, leeks, 5 types of tomatoes, and sweet red peppers. Still waiting to sprout are hot peppers, lettuce and sugar snap peas.

Lots more will be directly sowed into the soil when it warms up.

Canada’s food supply at risk as pandemic tightens borders to farm workers

Why not hire Canadians to do our own farming? Why do we have to "import" people to do jobs that we can do ourselves????? This seems insane to me that we cant farm our own lands........ This should not be a problem at all. Let's keep.our jobs in Canadians hands, after all, we are fully capable of farming. It's hard work, but it's not rocket science!!!!!!!!!!!!

Share this!!!!!!!! There will be farming jobs people. In fact there already is. You just have to be willing to put in some physical work. I know this because I have a small backyard farm, and I manage 14 beds on my own and work full time and have 3 children.

Agricultural sector employs about 60,000 temporary foreign workers each year to plant, harvest crops

Things you can do to help keep you busy, increase your nutrition and reduce your waste.

BONE BROTH DIY

This does not have to be complicated. In fact our ancestors would boil the whole animal and make the whole thing a soup. Bones, cartilage, organs and skin.

How I make my broth.

Add your bones to your crock pot. You can use a small amount of bones or you can fill the pot. It doesnt matter. :) For this batch I used half of a Turkey that I had frozen from Christmas.

Put some apple Cider vinegar over top of the bones and let it sit for about 10 min. This will help to loosen up the minerals from the bones.

Fill the crock pot with enough water to cover the bones.

Set on low for a minimum of 12 hours. I like to let mine go for 24. Sometimes I have let it go for 48. The longer it cooks, the more the bones fall apart and the more minerals and collagen you will get out of the broth.

I added some Wagame (dried seaweed) to this batch because I had it on hand and it increases the flavour and iodine content. Remember, we live in a goiter belt, which means that we do not consume enough iodine rich foods in our diets.

Once your bones have cooked let it cool enough to strain it out.

(I usually freeze mine in 2 cup servings so that I can make rice with it but this time we are going to use it right away. I have some frozen chicken that needs to be eaten so we are going to have home made chicken noodle soup tomorrow night for dinner)

Strain the broth to remove all the bone bits (but you dont actually need to do this).

Voila. You have your own healing broth. You can drink it as is, Cook your rice or quinoa with it or simply make a soup.

Plus bone broth contains the amino acid glycine, which has been shown to help enhance sleep quality due to its calming effects on the brain. Cant we all use a little calming for our brains right now?

If you have any questions, ask away. Let's help teach eachother how to be a little more self sufficient in this time of uncertainty.

Love and healthy vibes to you all.

Tips: Each and every time you consume an animal with the bones in tact, freeze the bones. You can add more bones to this bag each time each time you have left over bones.
