How does your dentist know if you have a cracked tooth?

You might think that it would be obvious because the pain would be excruciating, but it’s actually the opposite, especially if you have a silver mercury filling. Cracks in these teeth don’t usually hurt, so it can be difficult to know that they have started to split.

During your appointment, your dentist will pay close attention to the biting surfaces of your teeth to look for cavities, broken fillings, and white or black lies that may point to a vertical crack.

If you have a history of grinding your teeth at night, your dentist will pay extra attention to the biting surfaces of your teeth to look for cavities and broken fillings. They are also looking for white or black lines that may point to a vertical crack.

What is the best way to treat cracked teeth?

As tempting as it is to leave your teeth alone when there are cracks that aren’t painful, this is not the best approach, neither is waiting until it becomes painful.

Learn more on our blog at https://www.drandreastevens.com/blog/cracked-teeth-are-more-than-a-cosmetic-problem/

If the crack is on your front tooth, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that you don’t necessarily need a crown. It depends on your bite, how your front teeth meet, and if there are missing back teeth.

If one of your back teeth has a crack that is visible after getting cleaned out, you should consider getting a crown. This will help distribute the biting forces to your tooth and help prevent any cracks from getting larger and causing further complications.

Dr. Andrea Stevens and her team are committed to doing everything in their power to get your teeth healthy again. Contact Dr. Stevens at drandreastevens.com or 613-271-7091.

When was the last time you loved your smile?

Actually loved your smile. Not just the carefully crafted one that you break out for posed pictures. The smile that slips out when you’re watching a funny movie or talking to a friend.

What is stopping you from loving your smile now?

If the space between your teeth is causing you to be insecure, you’ll be pleased to know that it can be easily corrected with cosmetic dentistry.

How can I fix my smile?

You might think that you’re alone in telling your dentist that you dislike the space between your teeth or any other minor imperfections. The truth is, they hear things like that all the time.

Learn more on our blog at https://www.drandreastevens.com/blog/how-to-fix-the-space-between-your-teeth/

What are some of the best ways to correct the space between my teeth?

In fancy dental terms, the space between your teeth is called a “diastema.”

If you go to your dentist looking to have this corrected, they can suggest a few different options, including orthodontic treatments (braces or clear aligners). Speaking to your dentist about the best course of action is the best decision you can make for the overall health and appearance of your teeth.

Where can I get cosmetic dentistry done in Ottawa?

If you’re looking for a dentist who will work with you to help you get the smile of your dreams, reach out to Dr. Andrea Stevens today 613-271-7091 or drandreastevens.com.

What Type Of Dental Care Is Best For You?

Do you visit your dentist only when you’re in pain?

Or are you the person who diligently visits every six months for your cleaning and once a year for your checkup because that’s what your insurance covers?

Or maybe you want a personalized dental plan that keeps your teeth healthy and functional for a lifetime, though it may come with an out-of-pocket cost.

Whichever type of dental patient you are, you deserve a dentist that fits your needs. Your dentist doesn’t know your personal circumstances, so it’s not their right to choose how or why you pursue a certain type of care. It is their responsibility to ensure you get the care you need when you request it.

Most people actively avoid thinking about their teeth. If you can’t see a problem, it doesn’t exist, right?

If you’re wondering if you need a visit to the dentist to work out a custom dental plan, take a good look at your teeth in the mirror. How important are they to you?

If you come to the same conclusion that your dentist has, that your teeth are one of the most important things for you to invest in, then set a goal for your teeth and the health of your mouth. Once you’ve done that, schedule a visit with a trusted dentist to take the first step in reaching that goal.

If you’re looking for a dentist who is committed to helping you develop a customized plan, will do their best to guide you through your dental care, Dr. Andrea Stevens is the dentist for you. Contact Dr. Andrea Stevens Dentistry at drandreastevens.com or 613-271-7091.

Pain shouldn’t be a regular part of your life.

If you are in severe, constant pain, you can’t make the most of each day. You’ve tried every over-the-counter medication and visiting specialists, but the pain is still there.

If you have pain in and around your mouth and the side of your head, it can be difficult to determine what is causing it. You can’t see pain in an x-ray, and if the pain is radiating to different parts of your head it can be hard to pinpoint where exactly it’s coming from.

Is the pain in my ears related to my teeth?

The area around your ear is extremely complex. It consists of the temporomandibular joint, blood vessels, tendons, ligaments and the most complex nerve system in the body: the trigeminal nerve. Not only is this area complicated and intricate, but it is also the most used joint and muscle system in your body.

What are alternative options to treat my ear pain?

You probably wouldn’t think of visiting the dentist to rid yourself of severe, constant ear pain, but they may be the solution you’ve been looking for. Dentists who understand how your mouth and the nerves, joints, and muscles surrounding it are connected to your overall health are one of the best options when it comes to dealing with pain.

If you’re looking for a dentist who understands those things, Dr. Andrea Stevens is the expert you need. Contact Dr. Andrea Stevens at drandreastevens.com or 613-271-7091.

Just like that, we are into the gorgeous month of October.
Dr. Andrea Stevens Dentistry thought we would share out "Bite Into Local" taste experience that we had at Baan Thai Restaurant!

"We are so lucky to have what we think could be the best Thai restaurant in the city as our go-to takeout place, just around the corner from our house. We barely go two weeks without yet another order from @BaanThai. Since the pandemic shut downs, they are only open for take out, which has been just fine for us. Our family favorites are veggie spring rolls (which my vegetarian daughter rates as the best anywhere), veggie pad Thai, sticky rice and pla sam rod (salmon with peppers and tons of ginger). Plan ahead, the orders usually take 45-90 minutes to be ready but they are always so fresh and delicious that it’s worth planning ahead!"

Order your delish bites from #LOCAL restaurants.
WE DO.

"Meet The Team" would not be complete without the addition of Dr. Andrea Stevens herself! Here we go, with "Top Ten" things you didn't know about this amazing #local dentist and owner of Dr. Andrea Stevens Dentistry!! We love the answer to #4 [email protected]

1.) Which local spot do you love to support?
I LOVE sushi, so I'm going with Kiko SushiBar on Preston Street
🍣🍱🍣

2.)Two small towns that you love visiting?
I'm more of a big city girl myself (like NYC and Washington DC--I'm American-born and raised), so I prefer digging around inside Ottawa to see the different neigborhoods...they are each like a small town!

3.)After a long day at work , I love listening to:
Usually podcasts or an Audible book...I'm always learning something new👓📖📚

4.) If I wasn’t in the dental industry I would be a:
maker (wood), or own a bakery/coffee shop...or both!🥐🍞☕️

5.)My favourite farmers market that I can’t wait to get to is:
I really like Parkdale Market 🍎🍅🥒🌶🌽

6.) My all time favourite dental hack is: oral care bundle: Sonicare Toothbrush, Waterpik water flosser, Optirinse fluoride rinse (cavity prevention), and Perio Protect (gum health). It's a LOT of things, but it helps me avoid the need for much dental treatment!💥💥💥💥

7.) When a patient tells me they are afraid, I tell them:
Most of the time, the FEAR is based on not having control over the treatment in the past...things being done TO YOU rather than FOR YOU. We help you figure out how we can best help you regain control.💪👏👏👏👏

8.)If you have to eat something super sweet I highly recommend:
I have a HUGE sweet tooth! My favorite dessert is warm apple crumble with really good vanilla ice cream, but my love of sweets is really a LONG list!

9.)My fave way to get pumped up and ready for work is:
🎹🎼🎧Coffee ☕️ and 70s music...we play it all day in the office and I sing as I work. Sometimes I even get the lyrics right!

10).When people tell me I can’t…I usually reply with this:

"I'm pretty stubborn about finding a way to make it happen if it's important to me!"👏👏👏

"WHO LOVES PASTA?"🍝💋💋💋💋 When we heard that a local restaurant was in need of some customers, we decided to make Caffe Mio Ottawa the next place to visit on our "BITE INTO THIS" promotion. Our group made a reservation and we proceeded to have a fantastic pasta party like no other. Wellington West BIA Wellington West is a lovely neighbourhood and Caffe Mio is superb. This was the first weekend with indoor seating available, my friends and I had a lovely indoor dining experience (the patio was PACKED). The staff were lovely and accommodating to one diner with special dietary needs, and everyone enjoyed their meal! Most were in a pasta mood, but the pizzas also look amazing! Come visit this long-time Wellington Street place! BITE INTO LOCAL with Dr. Andrea Stevens Dentistry is celebrating all the locally owned places who have wonderful bites of fresh, tasty local food. Where to next? Let us know....and yes, we take the photos and tell the story! #dentist #drandreastevens #familydentist #straightteeth #happyteeth #bestdentist #smilemakeover #invisalignsmile #instadentist #dentistrylife #teethwhitening #oralhealth #ortho #dentalassistant #smiledesigner #dentistlife #digitaldentist #smiletransformation #healthysmile #restorativedentistry #dentalworld #dentalhealth #dentalhygienist #cosmeticdentist #biteintolocal #caffeMio #wellingstwest #myottawa #shoplocal
I love these ladies. Fantastic service, very attentive to my needs and fears, and accommodating with no judgment. I'm surprised and elated that going to the dentist is not a scary or bad thing anymore. Thank you to Dr. Stevens and the whole team!
I'd like to provide a positive review for a night guard I’ve been wearing for approximately 6 weeks now. I've loved it from the very first moment I tried it on. I didn’t realize what I was missing, but now I can’t sleep without it. Using the night guard has reduced the muscle pain I routinely experienced every morning, by holding my jaw in place while I sleep. This should also speed up my recovery time as I work toward a permanent solution to my extreme TMJ. As usual, Dr Stevens and her staff were wonderful in explaining the benefits and details of use of the mouth guard, and working with me to find the best possible solution for my unique situation. I highly recommend this type of mouth guard, as well as the Dr. Stevens team :).
