Happy New Year everyone! Albeit a little different this year, I hope each of you enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing, and safe holiday season!

Appointments have already been filling fast for January, but I've got a couple openings next week for anyone interested:

Wednesday Jan 13th at 5:45pm

I cannot thank you all enough for your continued support over the last year. It was a rollercoaster, to say the least, but the care this community has for one another will win out! And be sure in these times of elevated stress that you're taking care of you, too!

Sending my sincerest gratitude to each and every person who has supported me, I simply couldn't do this without the support of such wonderful people in my life, personally and professionally. Here's to many more! 💜💜💜💜💜

It's been about 3 years since I started learning about my craft, and in that time I've learned as many acronyms and schools of thought regarding inflammation and post-injury care, much of which contradicts the other. It is SO exciting to see this evidence-based and progressive approach to treatment for something that almost everyone will experience in their lifetime.

If you're recovering from an injury, I encourage you to consider registered massage therapy as part of your recovery process. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out or book an appointment for further assessment.

PEACE & LOVE: New acronym for the treatment of soft tissue injuries (🔓 Open Access Research Paper)

Traditional treatment of an acute sprain or strain consists of RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). It is now recognized that ice can delay healing, increase swelling, and possibly cause additional damage to injured tissues.

New recommendations are to provide soft tissue injuries with the PEACE & LOVE protocol. This helps encourage optimal loading of the joint and tissue around the affected injury which can impact the amount swelling and lead to a faster recovery.

✌ PEACE makes up the first steps you would take after an injury. Immediately after the injury you would want to protect (P) the injured structure, followed by elevating (E) the limb higher than the heart, avoid anti-inflammatory (A) both over-the-counter or prescriptions and ice, as they slow down tissue healing. Compress (C) the injured area to decrease swelling. Ensure patient education (E) on the risks of overtreatment.

💘 LOVE makes up the progressive return to activities a few days after the injury. Gradual load (L) will facilitate healing, optimistic (O) influences the perception of pain and recovery speed. Loading and progressive return to activity will facilitate vascularization (V) of the injured tissues. The last step involves activity exercises (E) can help recover range of motion, strength and proprioception.

This past weekend I completed an advanced course on both peripheral and axial joint mobilizations, and I am so excited to bring this skill set into my practice!

Joint mobilizations are an effective way to reduce pain and increase joint nutrition, and can also be used to restore, maintain, or increase your range of motion. While we worked on joints throughout the whole body, I was especially taken with the content regarding the SI joint and vertebral column, as these areas frequently present as problematic for so many of my clients. Joint mobilizations are an often overlooked tool, but one that can be so beneficial for any number of symptoms you may be presenting with.

I look forward to sharing this new skill set with you! Thank you to the Coned Institute for such a thorough, engaging, and well taught course!

First weekend back to in-class courses!!!
Thanks for letting us be part of your professional growth.

My Roots

I first came to Kingston to attend Queen’s University, where I received my bachelor’s degree in Arts and Science. However, it didn’t take long for me to realize that a career in that field wasn’t quite the right fit. Combining my passion for service, gained in over ten years in the restaurant industry, and my eagerness and knack for learning about the human body, I began to feel a strong pull toward massage. After completing my diploma with honours at Trillium College in July of 2019, I have found that this enthusiasm and desire to help others through the practice of therapeutic massage has only intensified.

I am firm believer that our quality of life is deeply rooted in how our bodies feel and perform during activities of daily life. I understand that every body is different, and each treatment should be catered to the individual’s needs. Be it lighter relaxation therapy, or deep tissue work that you’re looking for, I have the knowledge and skill to adapt each treatment according to what you need to live a comfortable and healthy lifestyle. My clinical experience at school has given me the opportunity to treat a wide array of conditions across a diverse demographic of clients, which I am excited to continue to do in my career at Mercury.

Outside of my time in the clinic, I can be found soaking up every minute possible with my family and friends, spending time hiking, swimming, or around the campfire. I love taking in any and all live music, and indulging in the amazing culinary diversity this city has to offer. Kingston is the city I love, and I cannot wait to give back to the community that has been so good to me.
