This month marks 30 years from graduating as a Chiropodist and I was asked to make a post about it and share a couple of pics from years gone by.

30 years have certainly zipped by very quickly but this month I have been sorting through old photos and realize what a wonderful career choice I made.

Of course there were many times where frustration and exhaustion tainted my view but I look back now on a thriving 30 year practice that allowed me to service and meet some absolutely extraordinary people. I continue to be amazed by their stories and experiences while we work through their foot problems and getting them on with their lives.

I continue to strive to be as active as some of them in their 80s and 90s and hope to be in as good of shape as a lot of them if I could be so lucky.

Here is a shout out of many thanks and gratitude to all of our patients that have made our practice such a joy to work with and to many more years of continued successes.❤️❤️

We are super excited to welcome Carissa to our team for the summer!

Hello, my name is Carissa Collins. I am an aspiring Chiropodist, who just finished my first year in the Chiropody program at The Michener Institute. Prior to, I completed my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Guelph.
What excites me about this profession is how much of an impact we can have on our patient’s well being. We all lead busy lives and finding the perfect shoe to fit into that lifestyle, as well as eliminating or reducing foot pain, can make a world of difference.
When I'm not busy hitting the books I enjoy exploring local hiking trails, discovering new, delicious places to eat, and hanging out with my dog. I can’t wait to help serve the Kingston community!

FOR POST VACCINE PATIENTS

We are still required to ask COVID 19 related screening questions before any care can be provided .

It is very important that, even after you receive the vaccine, you continue to follow any legal requirement specified in the Reopening Ontario Act, the recommendations of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and local public health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This includes wearing a mask, staying at least 2 meters from others and limiting/avoiding contact with others outside your immediate household.
The vaccine reduces your risk of becoming sick with COVID-19, it does not eliminate your risk.
In addition, we do not know yet if it stops transmission. In other words, you may carry the virus and not get sick, but still be able to pass it on to others.

Continue to protect yourself and others.

Wishing all of you, from all of us, the very best, safe and healthy holiday season ❤️❤️🎄🎄

I recently seen a post on local social media platform, a person looking for recommendations where to get new orthotics. I was happy to see and thank all of the people who recommended our office.
However other offices that offer orthotics are located in our area and they were recommended too. 4 of these offices are run by people that used to work for me and were trained by me.
Most of the complaints that eventually land in my office in regards to people not happy with them, actually do not have to do with the actual orthotics, rather than why they were made.
If you do not see a registered Chiropodist for a complete assessment, the orthotics may not address the problem that you are experiencing.
Orthotic appliances are medical devices, they must be designed to deflect, support, align or correct a deviation specific to each foot of each patient.
I see orthotics coming in from other clinics that are made very well, yet do not perform the function required to alleviate the symptoms for the frustrated patient sitting in front of me.
We have 4 registered Chiropodists working in Kingston, 2 are at our office, it is imperative that you be assessed properly so that you get the proper prescription and the desired result, like any other medical treatment plan.

Confirmed COVID-19 Outbreak at Binh's Nail and Spa Salon

Please do not confuse professional foot clinics with nail salons!

We see patients one at time, full screening, everybody must wear masks, we have full PPE, full disinfection and barrier protection between patients.

This is not a time where we can risk not only contracting Covid-19 but risk our numbers rising in our area and having to face more closures in the future.

We urge everyone to take full precautions before shopping and attending for services—we all depend on each other 😷😷

For all our patients looking for summer sandals and walking shoes, all of our stock is in. We are doing things a little different because of the disinfection and distancing protocols, you can give our office a call and we can set up a time for you. If you would like to see what we have in your size, you can call or send us an email at [email protected]

05/21/2020

We are happy to announce that we can now go back to booking appointments!

A few things to remember though as we are operating differently:

Patients must arrive wearing a mask, it can be home-made.

Please do not drop in, we are seeing patients one at a time, so just give us a call to let us know what you need and we will arrange.

We take a lot longer to do treatments because of the extra precautions and disinfection, and so we are seeing a lot fewer patients per day, please be patient with us 😊

Even though Kingston has been excellent in dealing with the spread of COVID-19, we have to keep up the great work! We have many frail and elderly patients that visit our clinic so that is one of the reasons why we take all of the necessary precautions-together we can do this !

Just a reminder for all urgent patients coming into the clinic at this time:

You must wear a mask, it does not need to be medical, it can be home-made.

We are seeing patients one at a time. Please park in front and we will signal you when we are ready for you.

If you need to pick up items, please give the clinic a call and we will arrange for you. Please do not try to drop-in.

Our virtual appointment option is now available. This option may be useful for:

Skin problems such as fungus, warts
Plantar fasciitis / Achilles tendinitis, taping and exercise treatment options.
Footwear related issues
Treatment options to do at home to deflect pressure from lesions such as corns, callus, painful areas, etc.

As time goes on, we understand that more and more patients will struggle to manage even routine foot care. We ask that patients do not work on your own feet, nails etc., or that of a family member, if you do not feel you can see the area properly, have difficulty with reaching, having difficulty with the tools you have at home, or your issue is high risk of infection as with having diabetes or poor circulation.

Please give us a call so that we can help you manage your feet while we are all trying to stay as safe as possible.

Many people have messaged us about how to deal with painful corns between the toes.
It is best to try and have a space between the toes or take some pressure off the area.
You can do this with a piece of cotton ball, foam, or any soft material that can stay in place. It is necessary to have the space, but not put more pressure on the corn (can put the cotton at the base of the toes, between).
Remember to really pay attention to your footwear, even the slightest amount of pressure from a toe box will irritate the area, so open toe sandals, or softer wider shoes will help.
Here are some of the tools we use at our clinic:
Toe combs, tube foam and gel separators (most items can be found at pharmacies, let us know if you can’t find or get them).

Just a reminder that we are open only for urgent care at this time. We have had to put several extra measures in place to ensure the safety of patients and staff. We have tried to ensure that there is a barrier between patient and staff, in addition to added disinfection protocol. Our mandate during this pandemic is to treat urgent foot issues in the safest possible environment, but there is also a risk in leaving your home in isolation. Please call our office if you are experiencing a foot issue, we will explain the process, screening and procedures that are now in place. Stay safe and together we will get through this difficult time❤️

EMERGENCY PATIENTS

We will see patients during this time, but only for emergencies. This means pain, infection or suspected infection/issue that is very serious to your overall health.

Your condition must warrant the risk of leaving your home in current isolation.

You must abide by our rules to keep yourself, other patients and our staff safe:

1. You must have not travelled in last 14 days.

2. You must not have symptoms such as a cough or fever.

3. You must stay in your car until we tell you we are ready to enter the clinic as we only allow one person in at one time. Clinic doors remain locked during treatments.

4. You must be seen alone, no family members or friends can come inside the clinic at the same time (waiting room closed).

5. We are in full protection equipment, even though this may seem or look alarming, we are following strict guidelines from the College of Chiropodists of Ontario and the Ministry of Health. We take all of these extra measures to protect each one of us during your visit.

6. We can only accept credit cards and debit and no cash during this time.

7. We need patients to stay in the treatment zone area of the clinic and respect the rules we have in place now.

8. We are seeing very few emergencies at this time as we need extra time for disinfection between each patient.

9. You must have been practicing social/physical distancing for at least 14 days.

10. We thank everyone for their cooperation in this extreme situation, together we can get through this time as safely as possible.

If you think you or someone requires an emergency appointment, please leave your message on our service 613-634-1707.

03/16/2020

For the safety of our community, we will be closed Monday March 16 for a period of at least 2 weeks. We will be contacting all of our patients and hope to soon be rescheduling our appointments. We hope that everyone continues to adhere to the social distancing in our attempts to slow the COVID-19 virus spread and protect the vulnerable and our health care system. We thank our patients for their understanding and we are committed to getting services back quickly when it is deemed safe for all of us.
Please call 613-634-1707 and leave message for emergencies and we will do our best to contact you as quickly as we can.

Do not live with unncessary pain in your feet and ankles. I just visited Pam at Kingston Foot and Ankle Clinic for a very painful ingrown toenail problem With hesitation in even going to the appointment, because I did not want to face anyone touching the toe, Pam had removed the pieces of nail culprits while talking to me about causes etc and it was done even before I realized she had started on the toe and it was PAINFREE - so go see Pam with your foot and ankle issues I guarantee you will be pleased you did --- you will walk with a new spring in your step!!!
