We’re keeping it in Kingston for this week’s #TwinningAttractions. Let’s dive into some military history!

Starting at Murney Tower Museum, situated on the beautiful Kingston waterfront. Built in 1846 as part of the defensive Martello tower fortifications of Kingston, this museum has 3 floors displaying a collection of military and domestic artifacts of 19th-century Kingston.
Did you know Murney Tower is Kingston’s first and oldest museum? Now THAT’S some history!

After your Murney Tower Trek, make your way across town to the RMC Museum. Collecting the history of the Royal Military College, its former Cadets, this museum houses over 7,000 artifacts! Including collections of fine art, archival material, archaeological, medal, silver, and more, there’s much to be seen and learned at the RMCM!

Special obstetrical dolls have been used to teach midwives about the mysteries of childbirth since at least the 18th century. The chamois-covered foetal mannequin with placenta in our collection was used in the 20th century at Kingston Health Sciences Centre to demonstrate childbirth and delivery to medical and nursing students until the 1960s. Foetal teaching dolls are still available today. To learn more: http://ow.ly/oi4s50Fvk41

This particular moulage (wax model) of an infant’s arm showing a typical vesicle on the tenth day after vaccination was likely brought to Canada by Dr. James Miller. In 1920 Dr. Miller moved from the University of Edinburgh to head the pathology department at Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Queen's University, Kingston. Moulages were important clinical teaching tools in many European and North American hospitals well into the 1940s. Once again we’re taking you on a time-travel adventure with this week’s #TwinningAttractions!

Step into a replica one-room schoolhouse and experience hands-on lessons and display galleries from the elementary one-room schools of Frontenac County’s past. At the Frontenac County Schools Museum, visitors can participate in pen and ink lessons and experience the estimated 10,000 items in its collection.

Did you know the Schools Museum’s building was built in 1886? And that before being home to the museum, it was used as a Town Hall and a Library? You’re truly taking a step into history at this site!

Next, visit the beautiful The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum. Explore life as an upper-middle-class citizen of the 1870s as you step into the Bates Family home (Named after Joshua Bates, founder of nearby Athens).

A visit to the Smiths Falls Heritage house offers period rooms, art shows, exhibition galleries, and a famous two-story privy. So much to explore!

What’s the one thing in 2021 that you’d bring back with you if you had to live in the past? #KingstonMuseums #VisitLocal
