When you love someone who has faced breast cancer, a campaign like this becomes personal. 💗
My sister has had breast cancer. Aunts and cousins I adore have been affected. And more recently, we lost our dear friend, Kelsey Carignan of Vibrant Yogi.
So yesterday afternoon, as I sat in a room filled with people coming together to support better breast health care for women in Langley, I couldn’t help but think about the women I love.
After 20 years as a professional fundraiser, I’ve had the privilege of supporting many wonderful causes. But serving on the Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation Development Committee (aka the fundraising committee!) feels particularly meaningful.
Because this is about providing care for the people we love, right here in our own community.
Yesterday’s Future of Mammography Reception marked the launch of a $2.1 million campaign to bring better, faster breast health care to women in Langley.
Life can get so full of appointments, meetings, committees and events.
But yesterday reminded me how meaningful those commitments become when we connect them to something bigger than ourselves.
Looking around that room, I saw a community showing up for women we love.
And I left feeling incredibly grateful.
For the Foundation and the work they do.
For the generosity of our community.
And for the opportunity to use what we know, who we are and what we have to make a difference in someone else’s life.
And stay tuned…
Because the incredible women who joined Jim and me at our table yesterday are already dreaming up how we might make a gift in Kelsey’s honour, while bringing women together to support this campaign in a way that feels very, very Vibrant. 💗
I have a feeling this is just the beginning.
