The survival strategies that keep us alive, are also what keep us from living.

Unresolved trauma affects your emotional health, relationships, and your physical health. I want to support you to safely feel your body and process unresolved hidden trauma held there.

Don’t underestimate the healing power of emotional freedom and expression. Rewire stress, overwhelm, attachment and trauma patterns. Allow embodied somatic healing to begin.

We are born embodied beings – feeling safe and comfortable in our bodies – and along the way, we experience trauma and feelings of isolation, fear and loneliness – and we become more and more disconnected for our deepest selves. We all have a body story – and our bodies are holding all that we have experienced.

Exploring your body story allows you to expand your embodied knowledge of yourself, heal trauma held in the nervous system – so you can feel safer and more grounded in your life.

Somatic healing is an opportunity to build nervous system capacity to feel difficult emotions, feelings and sensations held in the body, so you can feel what is being stored in your nervous system. Create a new dialogue of understanding and healing in your body. Deeply know what is happening in your body – and what it and you – need.

There’s a narrative that we tell ourselves and that we’ve told ourselves, that we hang on to – if we pause for long enough and sink into the body, there’s something else that wants to emerge.

Slow down and pause…listen and connect to your body.
Allowing space for your body to lead the way.
What do you notice?

Feel your feet, your hips, your shoulders and your spine.
What experiences impacted your ability to feel at home in your body?

Slowly and softly – develop a connection with your body again or for the first time.

“Keep it simple. Because in the heart and thick of it, down in the core where we meet our deep rooted selves, we are all magic.” ~ Victoria Erickson The survival strategies that keep us alive, are also what keep us from living. LOVE AFTER LOVE

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.

“I woke this morning, and found myself – accepting myself – loving myself. The boulders of self-doubt had rolled away, and I could see for miles.” ~ Jane O’Shea

Start where you are. Your feelings matter.

What is your lived experience of being in your body?

During our session(s) together, we will explore sensations and feelings in your body – and how they relate to what is happening in your life now. We also explore touch, movement, quiet and stillness. Without realizing it, we are holding longstanding stress patterns from our early development and our family of origin – and although these patterns were set a long time ago, they are still affecting us now.

With support, care and understanding, those patterns and feelings can shift, along with the difficult feelings we’ve been experiencing towards ourselves and others – such as shame, guilt, anxiety. self-hatred and fear. You may be experiencing the symptoms of unprocessed and often hidden trauma that keep you stuck in a loop of exhaustion, emotional chaos, relational conflicts, pain and internal unkindness.

When you slow down, and allow in nurturing care, you can slowly begin to access your nervous system, heart, brain and the emotional patterns held in the body – so that you will begin to find more softness and kindness in your responses to yourself in many ways.

Many of us are not used to slowing down and resting. Our identity is bound up in what we do, how busy we are and what we accomplish – and we can find it truly unsettling to stop and rest. Even during a pandemic. All of this busyness keeps us from the questions that may arise in in our unconscious when we slow down – Do I matter? Is there any meaning to life? Why do I feel alone? Am I doing the right things in life?

Allow

There is no controlling life.
Try corralling a lightning bolt,
containing a tornado.

Dam a stream and it will create a new
channel. Resist, and the tide
will sweep you off your feet.

Allow, and grace will carry
you to higher ground.

The only safety lies in letting it all in –
the wild and the weak; fear,
fantasies, failures and success.

When loss rips off the doors of
the heart, or sadness veils your
vision with despair, practice
becomes simply bearing the truth.

In the choice to let go of your
known way of being, the whole
world is revealed to your new eyes.

"Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives. Numerous studies have shown that social support is the most powerful protection against becoming overwhelmed by stress and trauma.

Social support is not the same as merely being in the presence of others. The critical issue is reciprocity: being truly heard and seen by the people around us, feeling that we are held in someone else’s mind and heart. For our physiology to calm down, heal, and grow we need a visceral feeling of safety."—Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma #somatichealing

Slowly and gently let’s begin – allow me to spend some time with you. Close your eyes for a moment—and feel what it feels like to be safe and at peace.

Turn within – and notice – how does it feel in your body, mind & heart today?

I begin each session with my clients by asking this question. When I do, I really want to know – how does it feel in your heart, chest, back, head, neck, shoulders, spine, stomach, digestion, hips, legs, knees, ankles, feet – and every other part of your body. I want to slowly and softly explore your experience of yourself and how it feels to be you – from the inside of your body, mind and heart – in this moment.

There is no keeping sorrow at a safe distance, because loss touches loss. Resilience is choosing to participate in heartbreak rather than closing yourself off….A year into the pandemic, with hundreds of thousands dead and millions of jobs lost around the world, letting ourselves know each other’s sorrow is exactly what we need to do to begin healing from the deep losses that have touched us all.

Working with Emotional Patterns Held in the Body - Restoring Core Nervous System Regulation - Setting the Conditions for Embodied Safety - Feeling Safe, Soft & Supported - Integrating Trauma & Understanding the Chemistry of Stress. - Kim Cochrane

Being human means living in a body. Most of us, who have experienced some form of trauma – neglect, abuse, early developmental childhood trauma, complex trauma, and oppression – are not aware we’re holding it in our body. Trauma is often talked about as solely impacting our ‘mental health’. And while our mental health may be impacted when we experience trauma, our physical health, bodies, relationships and work are effected too.

Let’s explore trauma and the body; the stories it holds, the memories it carries, our connection (or disconnection) from it – the conditioning we want to unravel – and the ways we live in our bodies, while living with trauma.

Creating new pathways out of old patterns, I offer you an atmosphere of connection and collaboration that supports moving towards a greater sense of well-being. This is created by cultivating a sense of safety, non-judgment, attunement, a resonant field that holds the inherent and intrinsic belief that everyone can heal. This work supports the body’s/nervous system’s ability to regulate and return to it’s organic nature. When we can align to all aspects of our being, we can experience more resilience and a greater capacity to be with the challenges and stressors of life.

Our Story

There’s an unmistakable link between hidden, early developmental trauma and chronic anxiety, depression, relational struggles, illness or pain. As an integrative relational somatic therapist and whole body somatic practitioner, I work with you deeply at the level of the nervous system and body sensations to heal invisible, long-held trauma, so that your emotional and physical symptoms can heal. You don’t have to be defined by your symptoms and it is possible to feel better.

Somatic Experiencing (SE), Co-Regulating Touch Bodywork for Trauma, Somatic Relational Awareness & Inquiry and Body-Mind Centering are some of the methods we will explore together. I will be both supportive and active and help you create new kinds of understanding, possibility and embodiment, so you can progress, at your pace, to rise into the fullness of who you are.

Your nature is fluid - naturally at ease and free. You may have spent a long time keeping what you feel inside, not knowing what you feel or not feeling able to speak up about it. You may feel stuck, in emotional or physical pain, anxious, depressed or suffering. You don’t have to be. No matter what your history, ease and freedom is possible for you. Wholeness and joy are already in you. Our work together will support you to access what’s true inside of you.

You may be struggling in your relationship, experiencing low self-esteem, struggling with an eating disorder or body image concerns, going through a divorce or grieving a loss. You may also be in transition and facing questions of identity, meaning or purpose in your life. You may be facing familiar feelings of stuckness and 'just going through the motions of life'. You may feel angry, sad or frustrated at the patterns that you’ve noticed in your life and don’t know how to get to the root of what’s happening for you and move towards lasting change. You could be facing a crisis but you don’t have to be. You can learn about embodiment, your nervous system and how your body is giving you messages that are helpful for you to learn how to understand. Let’s take time to slow down, notice and get in to your body. Your body holds a map of your emotional history. Allow yourself to feel and know your body in a full and deep way. Embody the fullness of your life and yourself. Feel grounded in the truth of yourself. Be with what’s here for you now. Touch in to the sensations inside of you and understand what your feelings truly mean for you.
