Did you know that MS is the most common neurological impacting young adults in Canada? Sixty percent of adults diagnosed with MS are between the ages of 20 and 49 years old. This is the prime age to complete higher education, enter the workforce, start a family, buy a house, and contribute to their communities, which means young adults living with MS face challenges thriving in these areas. MS Can Be, our free, virtual, bilingual summit, features sessions on subjects relevant to young adults who are impacted by MS: personal finance, healthcare advocacy, nutrition, and working with an episodic disability. For more information about the speakers at the two-day event, learn more here: https://bit.ly/3tUGVD6

Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a disease that many Canadians live with, that can disable the brain and spinal cord, or the central nervous system (CNS).
.
Individuals who suffer from MS may lose their ability to walk without support, or in more severe cases, lose that ability altogether.
.
At CODG, we are proud to provide our wonderful, strong, and resilient patients with braces, devices, and splints, that can assist them with their mobility and allow them the #FreedomToMove 💚

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a complicated disease that affects the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord. The nerves are covered in a Myelin Sheath that is attacked in people who have MS resulting in disruption or impairment of the nervous system. MS can affect vision, hearing, balance and mobility...

In the first clinical trial of its kind in Canada, Drs. Michelle Ploughman and Sarah Donkers are examining the impacts of combining translingual stimulation (PoNS) with physiotherapy in improving walking and balance for people with multiple sclerosis (MS). With over 75% of people living with MS experiencing walking and balance problems, finding appropriate interventions to improve mobility is important. The goal of the clinical trial is to evaluate the potential benefits of combining physiotherapy with the PoNS device versus physiotherapy alone. Results from the study will help advance our understanding of brain neuroplasticity in the context of walking and balance training in people with MS. Participant recruitment is currently ongoing at the University of Saskatchewan and Memorial University of Newfoundland.

Support, Align, Protect, Correct and Improve Function | Custom Orthotic Design Group

Orthoses are also used to correct gait deformities or function of a body part. Ankle foot orthoses (AFO) are often used for people who have foot drop and help to hold the foot in a proper position to allow a safe swing of the leg without hitting the ground and a proper landing so that the foot and knee does not collapse.
