Sitting Is the Smoking of Our Generation

"As we work, we sit more than we do anything else. We’re averaging 9.3 hours a day, compared to 7.7 hours of sleeping."

"Health studies conclude that people should sit less, and get up and move around."

Long hours of sitting leads to:
- production of enzymes that burn fat declines by as much as 90 percent
- tied to six percent of the impact for heart diseases
- tied to seven percent for type 2 diabetes
- tied to 10 percent for breast cancer, or colon cancer

WHAT YOU CAN DO?
At home, get up and walk around after every 30 minutes to 1 hour of working. It will not only boost productivity, but also greatly benefit physical health.

I find myself, probably like many of you, spending way too much time in front of my computer. When I do face-to-face meetings, my colleagues and I typ...

The Importance of Sleep

It's time for the sporadic sleep post again!
Many people tend to sleep later simply because they do not feel "sleepy."

If this is your excuse, look no further.
1. Stop using all technology 30 min before bed. The light blocks melatonin which can help you fall asleep. A 30 min wind down with relaxation and reading (a paper book) can make it easier to fall asleep.
2. No caffeine after 3 PM.
3. Sleep only an hour longer during the weekend than your latest weekday wake-up time.

#WellnessWednesday

This sections addresses the importance of sleep by providing facts about sleep, frequent questions and concerns about sleep, and tips for a good night’s sleep.

Why is breakfast important?

"Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Prince and Dine like a Pauper"

EATING BREAKFAST HAS LONG TERM HEALTH BENEFITS. IT CAN REDUCE OBESITY, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, HEART DISEASE AND DIABETES. BREAKFAST IS VERY VERY IMPORTANT.

During a busy morning, it's easy to let breakfast fall low in your list of priorities, but taking just a few minutes to have something to eat can really make a difference to your day.

Forget All-Night Studying, a Good Night’s Sleep Is Key to Doing Well on Exams

4 CRUCIAL HEALTH TIPS FOR EXAMS

• Get 8-9 hours of sleep nightly (especially before final exams)
• Try to study during periods of optimal brain function (usually around 6-8 p.m.) (doesn't mean you can PROCRASCINATE)
• Avoid studying in early afternoons, usually the time of least alertness
• Don’t overuse caffeinated drinks (caffeine remains in one’s system for 6-8 hours)

As fall semesters wind down, students will be pulling all-night study sessions to prepare for final exams. Ironically, the loss of sleep during these all-nighters could actually work against them performing well.
