The Ontario Government has announced the Province can enter STAGE 1 of the revised reopening plan Friday June 11th. This now means, outdoor fitness classes can resume!

Physical inactivity is associated with a higher risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes 🦠 ❗️

❓No better time to encourage the power of #physicalactivity more so than ever!

•Objectives
🔴To compare hospitalisation rates, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions and mortality for patients with COVID-19 who were consistently inactive, doing some activity or consistently meeting physical activity guidelines.

•Methods
🟠48440 adult patients with
a COVID-19 diagnosis from 1 January 2020 to 21 October 2020, with at least three exercise vital sign measurements from 19 March 2018 to 18 March 2020.

🟡Each patient’s self-reported physical activity category (consistently inactive=0–10 min/week, some activity=11–149 min/week, consistently meeting guidelines=150+ min/week) was linked to the risk of hospitalisation, ICU admission and death after COVID-19 diagnosis.

•Results
🟢Patients with COVID-19 who were consistently inactive had a greater risk of hospitalisation (OR 2.26; 95% CI 1.81 to 2.83), admission to the ICU (OR 1.73; 95% CI 1.18 to 2.55) and death (OR 2.49; 95% CI
1.33 to 4.67) due to COVID-19 than patients who were consistently meeting physical activity guidelines.

🔵Patients who were consistently inactive also had a greater risk of hospitalisation (OR 1.20; 95% CI 1.10 to 1.32), admission to the ICU (OR 1.10; 95% CI 0.93 to 1.29) and death (OR 1.32; 95% CI 1.09 to 1.60) due to COVID-19 than patients who were doing some physical activity.

•Conclusion
🟣Consistently meeting physical activity guidelines was strongly associated with a reduced risk for severe COVID-19 outcomes among infected adults. We recommend efforts to promote physical activity be prioritised by public health agencies and incorporated into routine medical care.

Today, the Ontario Government announced yet another lockdown to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This new lockdown is a Province wide "emergency break" beginning Saturday April 3rd at 12:01am.

This new "emergency break" will remain in place across the province for at least 4 weeks. Read the government news release associated with the province wide break.

WE ARE STILL OPEN

As mentioned in previous updates, everyone at Velocity is considered an essential worker and all services will continue as normal.
We continue to be extremely vigilant with our COVID-19 protocols to provide a clean and safe environment for all our patients and clients. In addition, almost all of our practitioners have been vaccinated. So, come in with a piece of mind knowing that you're in a safe place.

Today, the Ontario Government announced yet another lockdown to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This new lockdown is a Province wide "emergency break" beginning Saturday April 3rd at 12:01am.

Typically between 1-3 treatments involving muscle stripping and/or adjustments, and/or acupuncture & the headaches are nearly, if not fully gone. Coupling this with rehab will encourage long lasting effects without the need for frequent treatment

Due to the continuing rise of Covid-19 cases, The Ontario Government has announced effective November 23rd at 12:01am, Toronto and Peel will go into a modified lockdown. This new lockdown includes but not limited to; restaurants, bars, non-essential retail stores, gyms, theatres, banquet halls and personal care services which includes, hair and nail solons for 28 day.

Once again, this does not affect VELOCITY.

As Velocity is a Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation facility with all our practitioners having their own governing bodies and considered essential services, our clinics will operate as normal with all COVID-19 protocols in place.

Unfortunately, all semi-private and group classes in Mississauga only, are cancelled until further notice.

The theme of this week's LIVE chat show is research! Dr Henry Pollard will be chatting with Dr. Alex Lee about his passion for sports chiropractic clinical research, and this is a great opportunity to meet another member of the FICS research commission team 🥳 Dr. Lee is the Director of Clinical Services at Velocity Mississauga, and a fellow of the Royal College of Chiropractic Sports Sciences. He started his academic career at the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Kinesiology. His interest in sports medicine led him to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College where he graduated with magna cm laude honours and received the John M Wallace Memorial Award for clinical proficiency. Dr. Lee has worked as a provider in both the elite and amateur levels of hockey, martial arts, wrestling, volleyball, track & field, and endurance sports. He is clinical faculty at CMCC, is a peer reviewer for various academic journals, and is actively involved in clinical research.
