Just sitting here thinking of the numerous times I hear "CODE STROKE" in an 8-hour shift at CKHA. Let me show you something and remember, this is JUST strokes.

2018 stroke report shows 62,000+ strokes occur in Canada every year, which equals approximately 169 strokes per day, which equals approximately 7 per hour.

What do you think will happen when patients with COVID 19 are in all the beds, using all the ventilators and so much more.
Deaths will happen.

Be responsible and stay home!

❤️ Standard First Aid/Renewals
❤️ Emergency First Aid

The Heart and Stroke Foundation has recognized CPR as a life-saving skill therefore I will continue with CPR certification/recertification on an as-needed basis. The following courses will continue:
❤️ BLS Provider
❤️ Heartsaver Level C

I will continue following the advice of the Heart and Stroke Foundation and Public Health when it comes to providing these courses. Changes are happening daily, therefore updated posts on my page will happen.

Even though studies such as this one show people can use music to maintain guideline CPR compression rates of 100-120 compression per minute, in a realistic situation of cardiac arrest this may not be the case. I make sure I teach all my students how to count. In a chaotic, stressful and emotionally driven event of performing CPR, knowing how to properly count 30 compressions out loud and give breaths should always be the focus.
