Canada Day is going to look very different this year, and is an opportunity to open space for learning and conversations about Canada’s history and the treatment of Indigenous Peoples. In an effort to help others learn more about the true history of Canada, and hold space for Indigenous Peoples on July 1st, we have compiled a list of activities you can incorporate into Canada Day. Whether you’re planning to gather with friends and family or not, there is an activity for everyone on this list to take part in.

What can you do on Canada Day to support Indigenous Peoples?

1.Wear orange to show your support for those impacted by Residential Schools, and remind others of the true history of Canada.

2.Hold space for conversations with your friends and family about the history of Canada, and where your ancestors fit into this history. Challenge each other to bring one fact or piece of history to the table to share.

3.Watch a free film online to learn more about Indigenous Peoples. The Aboriginal Peoples Television Network or the National Film Board are a great place to find relevant films and shows.

4.Follow Indigenous creators and artists on social media

5.Sign up for Indigenous Canada, a free online course offered by the University of Alberta, to learn about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada

6.Donate to an Indigenous organization

7.Learn about the history and legacy of Residential Schools

It is with honour to announce the relaunch of the EPIC Dementia Care website! http://anishinaabekdementiacare.ca/

Over the last few months, the website was under construction, and we are delighted to be sharing new resources that support Dementia care for families and our communities.

The new resources were developed to help communities and families through the dementia journey. It also serves as an educational tool, promotes community health campaigns, collaborations, and community action.

These resources were developed with our community members and Knowledge Keepers to help share the invaluable knowledge and love that our communities hold for their loved ones! Please enjoy and share these resources with your families and communities.

If you have any questions or would help in using these resources, please do not hesitate to contact us. Michael-Ann MacLean
