PUBLIC ALERT - CLUSTER OF OVERDOSES

The Halton Regional Police Service is issuing a Public Alert after responding to 5 non-fatal, unintentional overdoses overnight (Oct. 21-22).

This is the largest cluster of suspected overdose-related calls since the beginning of the pandemic.

Two of the victims required naloxone *and* CPR at the scene, and in all likelihood, would have lost their lives without lifesaving action by bystanders and first responders.

If you use drugs, we are pleading with you to not use alone. If you must use alone, have a safety plan. Get someone to check on you either by phone or in person. Another option: download the Brave Be Safe app which connects you with remote support and monitoring.

For more details, including how to prevent an accidental drug poisoning, our full media release is available here: https://bit.ly/3GfzHPw.

Please share.

Look after yourselves and each other. Every overdose is a medical emergency. Know the signs and call 911 right away.

St. John Ambulance Canada stands in solidarity with the First Nations families, communities, and those deeply affected by the residential school system. We recognize the generational impact upon the First Nations community and mourn the appalling and unacceptable loss of 215 Indigenous children at the Residential School in Kamloops.

Our thoughts are with Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation and indeed, with all Indigenous communities across Canada at this time.

We are committed to continuing to work with our First Nations partners towards reconciliation and healing. We wish to offer meaningful support to the Indigenous community across Canada many of whom are our colleagues, volunteers, instructors, friends, and family.
