If you’ve ever thought that treatments and therapies are the only thing you have time for, then you are not alone. Sometimes as parents we can get stuck in the trenches of our child’s healing and we think that this is the only way to get to the “good things in life.” After speaking with today’s podcast guest, I had a great reminder about not just looking to the future but also ensuring our kids have the good things in life right now. My guest, Genia Stephen, founder and podcast host at The Good Things in Life, discussed how we can change our perspective on thinking about what are the good things in life for our children.

Things you will learn:
❤️Why therapies and treatments should not be our only focus when helping our children thrive
❤️Universal strategies to help our kids build good lives
❤️The medical model of disability and alternatives to that model
❤️How to flip your perspective and that of others in your child’s life so that they can have the good things in life that they deserve
❤️And much more…

This is the happy face of someone who's had a journal article accepted for publication. I write well and easily, but the process of publication is very stressful and challenging for me, so I am slow at this.

As an outcome of my research into end of life doulas I developed a micro model of compassionate community structure and function that can be easily reproduced for those who want to die at home. The model essentially completes the Abel model by offering the micro level component.

Publishing soon in the Journal of Palliative Care and Social Practice. I'm proud, and this article is open access, so everyone can read it. Happy #ThirstyForKnowledgeThursday everyone!

,Lend a hand to make this a reality in Halton Ontario Canada

In the Netherlands, if you die and have no known friends/family come the time of your funeral the Government will send out a civil servant and poet to your graveside to join the pall bearers, a cemetery staff member and funeral director who will read a custom poem.
Poems are written by a network of different poets across the country who research into the deceased’s life and then read out their custom poem by the graveside as ‘affirmation’ of this person’s existence.
‘The Lonely Funeral’ project was started by artist and poet F. Starik in 2002 who was moved bleakness of these funerals and they have continued on since. ❤️🙏🏼 ⚰️🇱🇺🕯

Words that Matter within death care....

The words used amongst the deathcare community can have a profound impact and can be very thought provoking. Some words may never have crossed your mind. Words create culture, once words such as disability sensitivity, disability culture, disability awareness, quadriplegia , autism developmental disability , hearing impaired to name a few, become apart of the language in deathcare, then a sense of INCLUSIVITY is noted, till then there is a noticeable, EXCLUSION of sorts within our current deathcare communities.
