Are you constipated? YOU MAY BE SURPRISED! Here's the scoop on poop and the microbiome.

If you aren't pooping 1-3 times per day, you've got some slow moving poop that can be causing major problems. Just because pooping every other day or 3 days is common, doesn't mean it's normal - or good for you. Your liver kicks out toxins to your intestines, and if your poop is just sitting there for too long, you reabsorb those toxins. To your body, it's like never taking out the garbage.

While there are many contributors to constipation (hormones, medications, lack of fibre or magnesium or water, poor nutritional diet, stress etc), it all starts in the gut. It's like trying to build a house without first laying a foundation. You could be doing all the right things, but still not getting results.

If you were to google "constipation and the microbiome" you would quickly see there is a lot of solid research on the important role "good" bacteria plays in the gut.

People with constipation often have significantly different gut bacteria composition than non-constipated people.

Constipated people have higher levels of methane producing bacteria in their intestines (hello bloating), which slows intestinal transit time. Think of it like promoting a lazy river. Constipated people also have significantly less Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus.

Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus help your colon to contract and move in rhythmic waves to push things along. Think of it as helping to turn on the wave pool.

Gut microbiota can affect intestinal motor functions either directly or indirectly.

For instance, one pathway is when bacteria ferment starch in the colon, it creates an increase in the number of high amplitude propagated contractions (HAPC).

In another pathway, when dietary fibre and resistant starch is fermented by "good" bacteria, it creates an important by-product called short chain fatty acids. SCFA help increase parietal tone and stimulate propulsive contractions.

This is just a small snippet of a more complex story. As you can see, you can be doing all the right things, but if you are lacking a good balance of bacteria that creates the wave pool, and have too much bacteria that creates the lazy river, you will still find yourself a little bunged up.

You know, I really, really care about you. Whether we speak every day or barely know each other, I hope you know this about me as a truth. I really care about you.

I cannot yell loudly enough for everyone to hear just how CRUCIAL, your microbiome is to ALL systems of your body. It is a matter of healthy life or dis-ease.

Whether you plan to get the vaccine or not, bringing your gut into balance is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING you can do for yourself.
I see you struggling. Anxiety, diabetes, hormone issues, pain, inflammation, depression, stress, gas, bloating, constipation, no energy.... my heart feels every one of your posts.

I can teach you how to support yourself so you don't have to struggle. I can teach you how to either support your body to help the vaccine work with you, or to support your body to ready your army of immune response.
