Okay LAST 5 minutes! (round 2, 3, 4, at times even 5!)
 
✋ if you’ve been there, done that! It’s all good and fun until the walk/ride home is a struggle. And that ends up impacting the next activity which usually is a snack or mealtime that then turns into a complete meltdown. Been there, done that!
 
When they’re having so much fun it’s so hard to stick to the plan and be back home on time. And then most often snowballs into a challenging nap or bedtime! If your little one is a perfect sleeper, well then you’re a lucky parent! Otherwise, managing your little one’s energy and limits is essential in order to avoid lots of big emotions as they get close to nap or bedtime.
 
·      Is your little one’s sleep agitated?
·      is it challenging for them to fall asleep?
·      are they waking up from a short nap?
·      do they experience multiple nightwakings?
·      do they wake up too early in the morning?
 
Are they perhaps going to sleep overtired? Next time you experience these challenges, take a closer look at your little one’s energy level 5, 10, and 15 minutes before you attempted to put them to sleep.

When working with families to sleep train/coach sometimes I get asked if we need to pause the program or delay the start. It’s a case by case scenario dependent on many factors but one thing for sure your little ones wellness and your comfort and reassurance are highest priority.

Baby it’s cold outside… and that means dry, itchy skin! In my quest to find ways to better hydrate from the inside out (yes, other than drinking more water!) I found this recent publication that looked at the link between sleep duration and hydration in 20,000 people! (links in bio).

CONCLUSION: those who slept less than 8 hours were associated with a higher rate of dehydration.

Pls note: this was an observational study but looking at what happens during sleep there are physiological evidence that can support this.

Solutions:
1) When was the last time you checked on your healthy sleep hygiene?
•Get the restful sleep you need
•Check your environment for distractions and disrupters (lights, sounds, phone)
•Create or refresh your personal bedtime routine
2) Sip on hydrating fluids throughout the day (water, milk) while controlling the amount of dehydrating fluids especially closer to bedtime (coffee, alcohol)
3) Eat a healthy balance of fruits and veggies
4) Avoid salty snack and sugary treats in excess

Until recently I thought potty training was the most unpredictable phase.

I’m relieved to know that this phase will pass and also seemingly easy to gain some control ground over it! This is by far the most embarrassing phase yet 🙈

Solution: we’ll have to make a time for “Poop Talk” and it seems like it might even be fun to see what he’ll come up with!

This Wednesday May 5th is day ❤

As a mom of two, my experience was very different each time. Breastfeeding grief, I experienced with both but differently each time. Body-based grief and self-compassion in parenting, along with trying to figure out my new identity and trying to understand why I felt lonely more often than not and so many more emotions arose that I needed to understand and work with. Add sleep deprivation to all this and all I have to say is that each passing day I am increasingly thankful to the people I worked closely with to help me find my new confort zones and creating my mental well-being toolbox.

Challenging myself and achieving something I set my mind to are ways I fill my cup.

When I finish reading a chapter or a book, complete a workout I didn't think I could do, or simply take a few just to breathe are little things that help me fill my cup.

My biggest is challenging a mindset! I find that often it's easy to settle with what's familiar. But, when that mindset is not serving you, and you find yourself fighting that inner energy trying to push you out of your "comfort" zone, then that's your indicator to break free. Let your energy flow and allow yourself to grow!

Let’s talk TEETHING!

Just like many developmental phases, teething can be experienced differently from one baby to another. My little guy expressed minor discomfort, while Roselle had bright red cheeks and even made up a teething song! Her “Zazaw” song was always an accurate indicator of a new little tooth to be expected in a couple of days or so!

CAN TEETHING IMPACT SLEEP?

Ask any parent with a child experiencing moderate discomfort, and they will surely agree!

Teething pain can be a source of the dreaded sleep REGRESSIONS just like a growth spurt, starting daycare, travelling, and the well-recognized 4, 6, 8-10, 12, and 18-24 months of key developmental stages.

Signs of a sleep regression include:
- Increased crankiness
- Resisting naps
- Trouble falling asleep at bedtime
- More frequent night wakings

The good news is that it’s a short phase, and that too shall pass! Things you can do:

- Maintaining adequate daytime feeds, top-ups might even be needed!

- Practice! Practice! Practice! Those new skills during the day so that baby’s crib does not become a practice field for pull-ups, crawling, jumping, and all those new learned/discovered tricks!

- STICK to your routine and the strategies you’ve implemented for naptime and bedtime

- Hugs, cuddles, extra love and care during the day with a teething ring, clean cold cloth to bite on, and remedies that your doctor recommended.

- Don’t forget to take extra care of yourself too, Mama!
