Special Needs Consultant. Working to help parents, families and schools to support children with sp
Although the focus is typically on the child with special needs, it is important to also remember the challenges that parents may face when advocating for and supporting their children. Being a parent of a child who has complex needs can be isolating and energy consuming - make sure you’re also taking care of yourself and that you are accessing supports that are available. Remember - being the best you, allows you to be the best parent and role model for them 🤍 Taking care of your mental health is never selfish.
This week has been a long one.. There seems to be a lot of kids and parents struggling through online school. Hopefully this talk can help, even a little bit 🤍
Reminder! Covid discussions and our kids. Stick to reassurance and making them feel safe. Kids hear a lot more than we may intend 😉

Boundaries can be hard to implement but also very effective! Boundaries allow our world to be more predictable and stable - allowing anxiety levels to lessen.
Acknowledging and feeling emotions is very important in our children’s development and avoiding anxiety. 🤍
Such kind comments from families I work with 🤍
We are all in this together 🤍 Felt like this needed to be said - couldn’t wait 🤍
Oldie but still relevant 😉 Full episode on my website - link in bio.
Help me, help you!
When we think of mental health - we often think of adults. But in reality kids mental health is just as important! During these trying times of Covid, we must remember that kids are also getting caught up in the mix of being pulled in and out of school, understanding their parents anxiety, social distancing, masks and so much more. If your child is being particularly difficult or just different, slow down and think if they may be struggling too. It’s so easy to forget that children may be having hard times with Covid too because life has become hard for everyone. Take time to stop and reflect on your families situation and maybe you’ll find that everyone needs a breather, a break and a just a big hug as we continue to manoeuvre these times. Heads up! We can do this! 💫
Do you feel that your child is misunderstood at school? Are you feeling frustrated because you feel that your child can achieve more than they are? Or are you confused with how your child’s IEPs is being implemented into their school day? For help with these questions and associated concerns, send me a message and I’ll support you! School can be tough during regular times! Covid is adding additional stress for families 😭You don’t have to do it alone, reach out and I’ll respond ☺️ 💫
Feel as though the advice you’ve been given is overwhelming and you’re not too sure how to make it work for ‘your family’? I personalise each session with my families. I don’t believe in a one size fits all approach but a little from many approaches strategy! I’ll build a personalised program for you and your loved ones 👏🏼🤍
Have you had the chance to check out my website?! If not, go over and take a look 👀 🥰 www.giannacolizza.com 🥰 I’m planning some special surprises and would love your input!!! Head over and look at the ‘watch me here’ page and let me know your thoughts 🤍 💫
The explanation is in the title! Behaviour IS communication. When our kids are acting out, it is important to find the cause of the behaviour rather than getting into a power struggle and just attempting to stop the behaviour. Behaviour is a way in which we communicate. Understanding the ‘why’ will only help us, to help them. 🤍 Also, I’m just not a believer in ‘bad’ or ‘naughty’ kids 💁🏻♀️ There’s an underlying need that we need to get to the bottom of 🙃
This is a question I am getting asked more and more often. Especially with the climate of the world right now. It’s individual to every child but one quote I live by is ‘A child’s perspective of the world is different from yours, try to understand a child’s perspective before you expect them to master yours’. Sometimes seeing things through another lens allows us to see what our children are actually feeling and why they may be struggling with their own anxieties. No one wants their worries minimised and it’s important to remember that things that may seem small from an adult perspective, are much much bigger from a child’s perspective 🤍
‘She supports me in areas she knows I need help before I even know what I need. She is incredible and in a few weeks I have already seen changes in myself and my son and I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time’ 🤍 A quote from one of the families I work with 🤍 Comments like this warm my heart - they mean so much to me! 💫
Hear it loud and clear! Every child is their unique wonderful selves. To ‘normalise’ a child, is to dull the light that shines from within them to match someone else’s perspective of how they ‘should’ be. Let’s celebrate being different, beautiful and ourselves!! What a boring world it would be if we were all the same. 🌟
In my behaviour support and parent coaching sessions we look at practical ways to help your child and your family. I tailor each one of my sessions to your specific circumstances, allowing us to use an array of strategies and programs that suit you! I believe in the program fitting the child, not the child fitting the program. 🌟

Do you feel that your school is failing at supporting your child and their needs? Do you feel like IEPs are looked at once and put into a drawer? Does online learning seem impossible for your child and family? In these difficult times, school has become more challenging than ever before. Whether you need support in helping your child at home or to have some important conversations with your child’s school, I’m here! Send a DM, email, message, whichever is easiest for you. 🤍
You read the parenting books, you may have other kids, you’ve babysat... you generally feel like you know what to do with a child! But more often than not, when parents are given a new diagnosis they feel stripped of all of their parenting knowledge. Im here to remind you that you still know your child best and you are capable of supporting and understanding them. I can help you in trying to understand your child’s perspective and why they may do things differently or feel differently. In my parent coaching sessions I will sit with you to discuss your worries, concerns and questions. Reach out! We all need a little help sometimes 🤍

Often when we feel anxious, we try to control our surroundings and it can affect the way we behave. Sometimes we forget that children can suffer from anxiety too. This can be heightened with an autism or ADHD diagnosis too! Feel like your child is trying to control the household? Showing challenging behaviour? Is nervous? Showing sensory behaviours? Or may even express their anxieties and worries to you? It could be anxiety, they could be suffering but showing it in confusing ways. Reach out, I’m here! 🤍 Kids need us to keep them feeling safe and their anxieties lowered.
