Hello all,
I am a Family Medicine Resident in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am conducting a research project called “Knowledge, perception, and use of electronic ci******es and Ho**ah among medical students, medical residents and medical fellows” with my co-investigator, Dr. Matthew Benesch (General Surgery Resident, Memorial University of Newfoundland). This survey is entirely voluntary; therefore, it is not a requirement of your institution. Our project is a component of our medical residency research curriculum requirements, which is designed to reflect the current use, attitudes and knowledge of cigarette alternatives.
I am contacting you to invite you to participate in an online survey in which you will be asked to provide some information about yourself. Survey participation and the data collected are intended to be anonymous. It is important to note the limits of anonymity. Although, specific personal identifiers will not be stored with our data, including your name, date of birth or email address, specific questions will be requested such as your place of study and demographic information. Therefore, there is a theoretical risk of indirect identification, but is exceedingly unlikely.
The data collected from this survey will serve as the Canadian arm of an international collaboration, which will involve sharing this anonymized information with our coinvestigators and combining our results with international findings. You have the right to withdraw from completing the survey at any time and you may skip questions if you prefer not to answer. This questionnaire will require about 15-30 min of your time to complete.
You must currently be a medical learner at a Canadian University, which includes medical students, clinical clerks, residents and fellows.
If you are interested in participating in this study, please click the link below to access the online survey. Once completed, you have the option of providing the investigators with your contact information to be entered to win one of ten $50 Amazon gift cards. The link provided for this draw will be separate from the survey itself, therefore, your survey responses cannot be linked to your email address.
If you have any questions about me or this project, please contact Dr. Morag Ryan by email at
[email protected]. You may also contact Dr. Matthew Benesch by email at
[email protected].
If you know anyone who may be interested in participating in this study, please give them a copy of this information.

Hello Everyone,
We hope that this message finds you well during these uncertain and changing times. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in drastic changes in the experiences of patients as well as care providers.
To help understand the impact of COVID-19 on physicians (and physicians in training) beyond the clinical environment, particularly in the realms of personal and administrative burdens, we put together a short questionnaire that should take < 10 minutes to complete.

By participating in the following anonymous survey, you will be helping in the gathering of information on how we can best support our community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you for completing the survey and be well.
Collaborative project idea:
There are nearly 100 days until July 1st and I’m reaching out to residents nationwide to submit written work about their experiences in the coming days. During such uncertain times, a lot will be seen for the first time and even more, unknowns will be encountered. For some of you, these may be your last experiences as residents before transitioning to independent practice as staff. As a resident myself, I’m hoping to gather a variety of narratives around people’s firsthand experiences going through our generation’s biggest health crisis to date.
Please message me directly if you're interested in contributing to this project/anthology.
