The stats in this article about vulnerability to COVID for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are staggering. Interesting to see #FASD mentioned (although they call it Fetal Alcohol Syndrome). Just respectfully sent the journalist Canada FASD Research Network’s Media Guide for future reference 🙂.

Over 90% of people with #FASD will experience mental health issues. These findings are helpful:

Seeing Children through a Polyvagal Lens

An excellent article by Mona Delahooke, Ph.D., especially in preparation for return to school. “…We can learn to appreciate that what some may see as “problematic” behaviors can actually teach us a lot about what children need from relationships and from the environment. When we shift our lens from viewing behaviors as either compliant or noncompliant to seeing them as adaptations, a whole new paradigm for supporting children’s behavioral challenges opens up.”

Polyvagal Theory widens the perspective on managing kids' challenging behaviors.

Guest column: Canadian Disability Benefit would support our country’s most vulnerable

“…I’ve also learned that of the over 6.2 million Canadians who live with a disability, almost 30 per cent live in poverty. They are considered by the federal government to be a group that’s at a greater risk of poverty. That is why Minister Carla Qualtrough tabled legislation recently to establish a national Canada Disability Benefit and why it’s so important that it be made into reality…”
