Don't expect to recover by sitting in a dark room waiting for some kind of magic to happen. You can't get something from nothing. Recovery takes time, hard work, like exercising on a daily basis, and doing whatever it takes such as adjusting the neck to fix the whiplash.
Keep it simple!

Start with getting a diagnosis. Is it concussion or just whiplash? You'll be surprised which one is more common.
https://www.drturner.ca/2021/04/21/concussion-vs-whiplash
How do you know if you have a concussion? What if it's just a whiplash injury? Can you tell the difference between a concussion vs whiplash?
Just breathe!
We have the most control over how we breathe and often forget how much of an impact it can have on our bodies. Slow breathing can calm us down, fast breathing can pump us up, and deep breathing can help us digest and detoxify. Certain breathing techniques can even s***f out a headache and it's free.
Try this simple exercise: 30 full breaths in and out, then exhale and hold for 60 seconds, and then breathe in and hold for 15 seconds. Repeat this 4 times. You should feel clear-headed, a little buzzed, and a lot more alert.
Recovery doesn't have to be complicated. The more complicated, the less likely the follow-through. The magic is always in the follow-through!
Focus on what you have the most control over. A proper diet, consistent exercise, 8-9 hours of sleep, and a clear treatment plan are proven to get the best results. So Keep It Simple!

Inspired by .schiffer, , and their phenomenal coffee B-Roll video.
In my office, I get asked a lot if I drink coffee and whether or not it's a bad thing to drink if you are recovering from concussion symptoms.
I thought I would share both how I make my coffee and my first video learning how to edit with DaVinci Resolve/ "trying" to use some of the techniques the pros use.
My Coffee:
Lavazza Espresso Oro
AreoPress
Wild Chaga Mushroom
Organic Nutmeg
Nutivia MCT oil
Organic Cacao powder
In terms of knocking off coffee when recovering from a concussion, there is no conclusive evidence that holds coffee at the top of the list for symptom triggers. However, caffeine is a dehydrator and poor hydration levels can lead to increased symptoms. The idea is not to go overboard with caffeine, 1-2 cups max per day. If you need more than that to get yourself going in the morning, your problem is not coffee, you probably have questionable sleep habits. So for every cup of coffee, it takes 2 cups of water to rehydrate. I don't make these rules.

In the world of concussion management, the old-school advice was to go home and do nothing after getting a concussion diagnosis.
Current research tells us that this advice can negatively affect prognosis by prolonging symptoms.
Ultimately, doing nothing leads to more of nothing. After 24-48 hours of rest, it's time to get moving again. Maintaining a physical routine has been shown to improve recovery. We are built for adaptation, doing nothing denies us of a timely recovery.

Mistakes to avoid #2: Not enough exposure to things that set off symptoms. Meaning that sufferers often resort to avoidance rather than confronting either pain or fear of symptoms. The brain is designed much the same as a muscle is to exercise. The more the brain is stimulated the more it will adapt. If it doesn't face any stimulation then don't expect to recover very fast. Therefore, continued use of light blocking glasses, earplugs, avoiding exercise, and busy environments will only delay full recovery. Exposing oneself to these stimuli often will produce symptoms, however, that is not a bad thing. This exposure creates the adaptation your brain needs for recovery. The trick is exposing yourself in a controlled fashion to optimize recovery and not overdoing it.
Fear of activity: - Being concussed can influence our daily activities. Very often, when recovering from post-concussion symptoms, we avoid many things that could potentially cause our symptoms to flare up. Any type of exercise can be painful. However, it is very important to understand that just because a movement causes pain, doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. As I said before, our brain grows and adapts to the stimulus that we expose it to. If we are too afraid to move or exercise and slowly overcome the pain, then our bodies won't adapt and we won't recover as we should.

Rediscover one of the most fundamental tools that we all have and should be taking advantage of on a daily basis. Breathing! It has more of an effect than you think.

If you tell yourself you can't, you're right!
Defeat can take many forms when recovering from a head or neck injury. For instance, feeling symptoms spike from certain activities for no reason, constant lack of energy, isolation from the rest of the world... Experiencing these things repeatedly can feel overwhelming. That's normal. However, even though you may be getting symptoms with exercise, for example, this is not a bad thing. Especially if the level of symptoms does not increase beyond what you are used to. These symptoms are just another form of adaptation. Therefore, tossing the towel in defeat because it's hard or that you don't have the energy is going to delay recovery.
When you choose to accept the challenge, you will adapt, you will recover.

Relying on only one professional opinion for a concussion is like going on vacation to New York City and only visiting the train station. There are a lot of other things out there.
A concussion is a complex injury that can involve multiple areas such as the skull, neck, jaw, inner ear, and vision. Stopping on the first opinion or diagnosis may get you to the station but will keep you from getting different perspectives that may also be beneficial.
Very few professionals are really good at everything. Often it takes a team of people with unique perspectives to come together as a team and provide the best care.

Neck pain and tightness are often associated with weakness. Weakness can be linked to joint dysfunction. Joint dysfunction in the neck can lead to cervicogenic headaches. Strengthening the neck can get rid of the muscle pain, tightness, and joint dysfunction, along with reducing headache frequency/intensity.

Focus only on what you have control over. In the pursuit of PCS recovery, diet is a key factor that we can control. Choose to put healthy foods in your body that aid in the recovery process and learn about the foods that slow it down.
Seek evdience based info from a hollistic nutritionist or naturopath that have experience in treating PCS.

Improve recovery time from concussion or post-concussion symptoms by doing this exercise. Just get up and WALK! The best time to exercise is when you don't feel like it especially when recovering from PCS.
