l Coach (yes, like a life coach with super-powers because I was dedicated to the training process) and a personal chef. And when I’m not coaching my nutrition clients and cooking for my personal chef clients I can be found writing folk/rock music on my guitar or piano, mucking around in my vegetable garden or playing with my awesome kids. And if you look but you actually can’t find me I am probably on a long walk with my dog or off connecting over tea with someone I love. This is very helpful! I’m not sure why, after this many years on earth, hard boiling eggs perfectly is still a mystery to myself and many others😂.
So we can put this egg debate to rest! Eggs on top were boiled with salt in the water. TOTAL DISASTER, to the point where I couldn't use them for deviled eggs. Bottom eggs were boiled with salt AND a healthy dump of baking soda in the water. I barely had to crack the shells and they just slipped right off! I hope this can help someone for Christmas if you are doing deviled eggs. 😊

I am looking for a chef to join our team for a casual chef position.
We are a personal chef service and we cook in a commercial kitchen in Kanata making healthy comfort food for families around Ottawa.
We cook Monday to Wednesday between 8am and 2pm. We are a relaxed group of 3 mature chefs and we are looking to invite a 4th chef to come and join us on an as-needed basis (specifically to cover days off, to join us on our busiest days and for a few weeks over summer while we rotate vacations, with the potential to come on more regularly as we continue to grow).
Because this is a CUSTOM meal service, this position requires very close attention to detail and very clear thinking as well as good organizational skills and patience. We have fast paced busy days but this is a bit more relaxed than a large volume restaurant kitchen, so a welcome shift for someone looking to change up from late night/weekend, high stress hours to daytime.
Culinary training preferred and restaurant or commercial kitchen experience required.

Today has been a reminder about how extremely lucky I have been in my adventure of running a personal chef business.

This might be helpful information if you have been struggling with finding or paying for Romaine lettuce! The end of the shortage is near:-).
Lettuce fill you in. You may have noticed that the lettuce supply has been short and quite expensive. Around October and November Canada typically gets head lettuce and romaine hearts from Salinas, Northern California. The growing season in Salinas was cut short this year due to a virus and drought and the next area of growing, Huron, Southern California, has also had issues with drought leaving the "back up plan" for Salinas' supply without lettuce itself. However, The end of the shortage is near! Very soon the Arizona fields will start to replenish the shortages we currently face and Arizona will be our supply through the winter.

This is a position that will allow will you to continue to have quality of life outside of work (so that you have more time for yourself while making additional income or more time to do another job that is important to you). You will work with a great team in a commercial kitchen and deal face to face with our awesome clients. The hours will be midday to late afternoon, 3 days a week.
Kristin McCaig Nutrition is a personal chef/custom meal service. Since launching in 2015 we have been helping local singles, couples and families take the stress out of meal time by creating custom meals that are healthy and nutritionist approved while still being food they can't wait to get home to enjoy.
Our commercial kitchen is located in Kanata. At the end of each cookday, deliveries are divided by team members, by location in the city and brought directly to the client's doorstep to be handed off to the client.
We love our clients and this short drop off is such an important part in connecting with them.
I am now looking to grow the team by adding a team member whose main focus is helping us deliver the meals but will also include helping out in the kitchen as needed.
You are a candidate for this job if you:
- Love and care about people and really enjoy taking the time to have a small chat with people when they have time. You don't mind giving that little extra effort to make someone's day. You will sometimes be the only person from the team that the client ever gets the pleasure of meeting.
- Are confident, punctual, committed and have great attention to detail.
- Enjoy driving, are able to follow directions and are confident driving in heavy snow and rain when necessary.
- Find joy in the kitchen and have an appreciation for the importance of healthy eating.
- Are somewhat to very health focused
- Are able to do physical tasks like lifting heavy boxes (you may have to carry a box with 5 family dinners into an apartment and up an elevator for example)
- Have a clean driving record and are able to obtain a police check.
- Must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and working cell phone with maps app and data.
- Must speak english fluently
- Have some tech-savy-ness as there will be apps for you to use from your phone.
-Have a vehicle that is non-smoking at all times
Duties include:
- packing coolers/bags and ensuring each client has all the meals on their menu, including sides and accompaniments
- double checking with the chefs that all ingredient exclusions have been followed
- you may hop into an apron and help finish off salads and dressings and packaging/labeling meals
- you may be asked to do light grocery shopping on your way in (ahh! we need one more red pepper:-)!
- Communicating expected arrival times with clients via text or telephone
- delivering meals to clients and following instructions on where each client would like their meals left (at door, in garage, handed off to client).
- collecting and keeping track of containers from clients (these will be brought back to the kitchen)
- tracking your km's driven
We will figure out the best timing together as you settle into this position but likely, you will come to the kitchen around noon or 1pm and head out for deliveries by 2pm (or a bit earlier). Our delivery window is currently 2-4pm so ideally, you will be done between 4 and 4:30pm. Some days you may only have one delivery and others you may have four. We deliver to clients as far as North Gower, Vanier and Carleton Place but will have other team members to assist with deliveries that would take you too far away from a reasonable route. Deliveries will regularly range from locations between Kanata to Vanier.

I am hiring a Grocery Shopper 🙂
I have a personal chef business, cooking healthy meals for families around Ottawa. The role of the grocery shopper is to stock up the kitchen for our cook dates!
Shopping happens on Sunday mornings and Tuesday mornings (at the time that works best for you).
The shopping is done in Kanata at Costco, Farm Boy and Superstore for the most part. You will then deliver the food to the commercial kitchen located in Kanata and organize it nicely into bins and onto shelves. You will the check off a slightly lengthy grocery list and create a list of what we are missing. Each shop generally takes between 2.5-4.5 hours, with three longer shop being Sunday.
You are a great fit to join our team if you have excellent attention to detail, feel a certain kind of love for grocery shopping and enjoy organizing. If you are happy to work independently, you will be in heaven. There is some heavy-ish lifting involved with moving all the groceries around onto high shelves in a walk in fridge.
You must be somewhat tech savvy as all the lists are on apps that you will download to your phone.
Beginning: July 8th or 15th. $19/hour plus additional to cover gas. Must be located in the west end and have your own reliable vehicle.
