Parents mental health is so important

"Hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Because the baby's being taken care of—⁣⁣fed, snuggled, and given all the love in the world—⁣⁣by not only the mother⁣⁣ but also her partner, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and friends.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But the mother⁣⁣ may have gaps in her mind from lack of sleep,⁣⁣ she may be mechanical in her motions as she's healing,⁣⁣ may feel more like a mess than a mother,⁣⁣ she may be sitting in bed, crying, feeling overwhelmed in her body and life,⁣⁣ may be full of mom guilt because in her mind, "she's not good enough." She's bleeding, wincing in pain, swollen and emotional.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
And the mother is that baby's whole world and needs to be seen, so she doesn't disappear into that postpartum fog.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So, hold the mother, not the baby.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣A mother agrees that her baby matters more, but⁣⁣ she's the person behind the baby,⁣⁣ in the background, making it all happen. ⁣⁣Feeding her baby at all hours,⁣⁣ snuggling her baby close, comforting newborn cries,⁣⁣ she's that baby's everything.⁣⁣

So, it's the mother who needs your love.⁣⁣ And a mother will remember who held her up.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣So instead of "I'm coming to see the baby,"⁣⁣ try saying, "I'm coming to see you 𝘢𝘯𝘥 meet the baby, too."⁣⁣
⁣⁣
⁣Because the mother needs to be held more.⁣⁣"

Announcing a new online breastfeeding course. It's been months in the making and I'm so happy to get it "out there".

My wish is that more parents have a solid foundation of information and know where to look for building skills and techniques, even before they need them. My hope and belief are that with this course, parents find it easier to achieve their goals and build their confidence.

This is designed as a prenatal course, but recently delivered parents could also benefit.

At this price point, the 2+ hours of content are a steal, indeed, because it's a joy to see empowered parents.

Have a look. Link below.

I'm so excited that after many months in the works, I can now this for mothers. Like a pregnancy, it is now ready for delivery!

The goal of the course is to pregnant people to be immediately set up well for . So yes, it includes what to expect in various birth scenarios and much more. Look for upcoming posts and check out https://courses.lactationcare.ca/course/prenatal-breastfeeding

There are a lot of myths out there about breastfeeding. Here's one.

"There are a lot of myths out there on how to prepare your ni***es for breastfeeding. A lot of them are about toughening them, like when pregnant ""rub your ni***es with a rough towel"". Ouch!

The thing is ni***es do not get tough when pregnant. And they do not get tough after either. You can breastfeed 4 children for 2 years each and they will not get tough.

So, how to prepare your ni***es for BF? Do nothing.

Help to support the most fragile members of society- CHEO needs to hear your voice

Premature infants are at higher risk of complications. Studies show babies getting a diet of only their mother's milk are less likely to develop life threatening complication related to their gut.

Help us advocate for our most fragile citizens by advocating for a staff Lactation consultant position.

Help for any baby who needs help at CHEO....

Did you know CHEO does not have a staff lactation consultant position?
Why is this a problem?
Many children admitted to CHEO have unique feeding needs. Families are often left to navigate complex feeding situations without the support of a Lactation Consultant.

Lactation Consultants are trained to support families in breastfeeding / chestfeeding through illness and special needs cases.

Sign the petition below to advocate for the best possible care for the most fragile among us.

At least 14 percent of all new mothers report having postpartum depression in the first year after childbirth, but most do not talk about it or get help.

Please reach out for help because postpartum depression is treatable. When you feel better, your baby and your family will benefit too! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
