Yesterday, to kick off AIDS Awareness Week, ACO proudly hosted a 1-year celebration event for the ACB Health Zone. It was well-attended by community members and community partners. A delightful evening filled with food, music, guest speakers and meaningful dialogue.

This year’s theme for World AIDS Day is “Communities make the difference”, and the ACB Health Zone is a true testament of that and the ACB community in Ottawa has made a real difference!

Realize Canada http://www.realizecanada.org/ is providing a great opportunity for African, Caribbean and Black folks in Ottawa (and service providers) to share their experiences in a paid and confidential focus group.

Focus group participants will help increase the knowledge of our communities and receive an honorarium for their knowledge and efforts.

For more information visit their Facebook or website, or contact them at [email protected]

Realize is currently conducting focus groups to better understand what it’s like to be an African, Caribbean or Black (ACB) person in Canada who is aging with HIV. We’re hoping to talk to people with lived experience as well as service providers who support these communities. Themes emerging from the focus group discussions will inform the development of a new community resource to be released in February 2019.

The following focus groups will be held by phone and are open to participants from across Canada:

Older adults (age 50+) living with HIV from ACB communities are invited to join us by phone (toll-free) on:
Wednesday January 16, 2019 from 1:30 – 3:30pm Eastern Time
*You may use a nickname on the call to protect your confidentiality if you feel more comfortable doing so
**A small honourarium will be provided in the form of an electronic gift card

Service providers who support older adults (age 50+) living with HIV from ACB communities are invited to join us by phone (toll-free) on:
Friday January 18, 2019 from 1:00-3:00pm Eastern Time

To register for either focus group, please email [email protected] or call Kate Murzin at 416-513-0440 ext 244.
