Research Study: Understanding Childrearing Families’ Decisions to Vaccinate Against COVID-19 and Influenza

We are looking for childrearing families and stakeholders to participate in the study.

Vaccination is recognized as one of the most valuable public health interventions. Despite an important safe and effective method to combat viral infections, rates of influenza and COVID-19 vaccination remain low for Canadian children. For this study, primary investigator Dr. Roberta Woodgate will be gathering information on the experiences of childrearing families’ decisions to vaccinate their family members against COVID-19 and flu. Recommendations and solutions to reduce vaccine hesitancy and promote vaccine uptake will emerge that can be used to inform public health services, policy, and messaging.

What families can you expect?
• Childrearing families across the county are invited to take part in the study.
• Participation in this study involves families taking part in virtual interviews.
• Translation services will be provided for families who prefer to be interviewed in a language other than English.
• Participation is voluntary and confidential.
• You will receive an honorarium in appreciation of your participation.

What stakeholders can you expect?
• Stakeholders including pediatricians, family and primary care physicians, public health nurses, and nurse practitioners as well as policymakers across the country are invited to take part in the study.
• Participation in this study involves stakeholders taking part in virtual focus groups and/or individual interviews.
• Translation services will be provided for stakeholders who prefer to be interviewed in a language other than English.
• Participation is voluntary and confidential.
• You will receive an honorarium in appreciation of your participation.

The study is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and has been approved by the University of Manitoba Health Research Ethics Board. If there are any questions or you would like to be part of this, please contact the research coordinator, Leah Nicholson at [email protected] or via phone at 204-480-1049. You may also contact Dr. Roberta Woodgate at [email protected] or via phone at 204-474-8338.
