Weeks 76 and 77 check-in:

What is cooking even?

A joke, that’s what

How new parents manage to eat, much less make, a meal is beyond me. We’ve been eating out/ordering delivery a lot over the last couple months, but a home cooked meal is honestly the best

I wanted to use up whatever we had hanging out in the fridge that was leftover or that we bought awhile ago with the original intention (hope) of cooking more

Also, I needed to eat a vegetable

Strategy: Throw a bunch of stuff in a pot and hope for the best

Pasta and casseroles ftw

• lean ground pork
• package of tagliatelle
• old portobello mushrooms
• old mini peppers
• half a bag of almost freezer burnt broccoli
• oldish small onion
• giant green onion
• rest of a head of garlic
• most of a log of opened garlic and herb goat cheese that did not taste great (lol)
• Parmesan
• rest of the EVOO
• skim milk
• gifted @gaspesiesauvage wild herbs rub for poultry
• @urbanaccentsspices mushroom truffle hunt seasoning
• S&P

You’re a super active, gassy, colicky little man who fights naps and has the worst case of fomo we’ve ever seen

Even with all the fuss, you still show us a lot of smiles 👶🏻 Your face looks different every day!

How breastfeeding is going

Weeks 72 and 73 check-in:

So much has happened!

Carrington and Keiron met for the first time 👯‍♂️ Adorable little cousins!

The husband and I have had all kinds of fluids on us, and so has our furniture 😅 but we’re learning how to minimize those chances (after learning the hard way, of course)

I started back at my part-time gig as Yelp Ottawa’s Community Ambassador last week 🙋🏻‍♀️ the sling is coming in extra handy!

Little man got the ol’ snipperoo and I watched 😧

Sophia had perfect timing and went into heat at the same time, realllly testing my patience 😼 (if you know any places doing spays that aren’t so long of a wait, lemme know!)

With still super low milk supply and the toll it was taking on me physically but mostly mentally, I decided to stop trying to breastfeed and stop pumping 😕 more on that later!

Week 71 check-in:

Carrington turned a month old the other day and time is moving fast and slow at the same time! He looks different almost every day and I can’t stop staring at his cute little face 😍

Sophia got into a bag of what we Filipinos call banana blossoms for dishes like paksiw, which I only just found out aren’t banana blossoms at all and are actually dried lily buds/flowers, which I also didn’t know are toxic to cats 🙀 Got her to the emergency vet clinic immediately and thankfully she’s okay!

Making my way through foods and drinks I haven’t had in awhile because #pregnancyproblems

Finally got to try Tiger Sugar Ontario for the first time and I got their signature brown sugar boba milk with cream mousse🧋

It was definitely a nice sweet treat, but I do still love my classic roasted milk tea and taro

What are your go-to flavours?

One month of Carrington

You now love floating around in the water, vibrations and rhythms of music and butt pats, and you don’t have teeth yet, but that doesn’t stop you from chomping down 🦈

You have your mom’s sleeping habits and appetite, and your dad’s sp*ed of eating 😅

Has it already been a month? Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Week 69 check-in:

Had my first little cry in awhile.

Pure frustration. It’s hard.

With my carpal tunnel pain worse than ever, C-section pain, and now all kinds of ni**le, breast, and armpit pain, I’m just tired of being in pain. It just seems like one thing after another for months now and I can’t seem to catch a break of relief.

The pain management alone is exhausting and makes it really hard to take care of this little dude, feeling like I can’t get to him fast enough and afraid my hands or lower body will give and I’ll drop him.

Even basic, simple tasks of taking care of myself are extremely difficult, like getting a plate or making something to eat, getting into and out of bed, opening doors and bottles for my supplements and meds, bathing, even wiping my ass. Like.. seriously, c’mon.

I’m so done with it.

Any mamas out there who have had these kinds of pains? I know they’ll eventually go away, but talk to me, and tell it to me straight. When did they for you?

Week 68 check-in:

First week of parenthood with our little Care Bear!

👶🏻 eat, p**p, eat, eat, eat, p**p, casual p*e, snack, half sleep, eat, eat, p**p, repeat (basically his mother)

🧔🏻‍♂️ doing well, making small adjustments, finding it fun except for when the little babe is in meltdown mode, but learning more about him and his wants and needs

👩🏻 my only hobby now is staring at this cute little face, C-section recovery is ok other than the searing pain above my hip bone now and then, my insomnia and erratic sleep patterns are finally paying off, and can’t wait for my electric breast pump because my hands are MERKED

😽 sweetest babysitter, protective over the new mini human, and wanting to cuddle with him in his bassinet all the time

Grateful ♥️

Week 67 check-in (part 5):

I was numb from the neck down for awhile, and because I got tested for COVID, we had to isolate, and so did our little Care Bear

We only got an hour with him right after delivery before they took him to his own baby isolation and we couldn’t do skin-to-skin right away because we both had fevers

They took me to our recovery room with Phil, and Carrington to the special care nursery (baby ICU) area to monitor him, while we both got antibiotics and fluid

We finally got to go see him one at a time in the special care nursery at around 2pm on Friday, and it wasn’t until around 10pm until they were allowed to bring him to our room for some skin-to-skin, but only for a bit before they took him back for more meds and as we continued to isolate

They came back another time or two for me to try to breastfeed until he got to stay with us fully in the middle of the night on Saturday, and we eventually we got discharged at about 5:30pm

Between early labour at work on Tuesday and being discharged from the hospital on Saturday, we’ve lost all sense of time

But we’re all home and healthy and safe and grateful and we have never felt so much love ♥️

Week 67 check-in (part 3):

ACTIVE LABOUR !

I waited to go back to the hospital at around 2:30am Thursday, until I started feeling contractions again and when they became unbearable, when I had to crawl to the bathroom and couldn’t even stand up straight, and I finally got admitted this time

I got an IV, but the first time the nurse hit a valve, which was super painful, but got it the second time (which later caused swelling up to my elbow because turned out it went into tissue)

I got my blood taken, an epidural, and then thought we were all set to just hang out till it was time

Well, I stopped dilating at 8cm (you’re good to go at 10), so they broke my water and gave me drugs to induce me and sp*ed up the process

But then I developed a high grade fever and they didn't know exactly why, so I also did a COVID swab and whatever other tests that I don’t know the details about/don’t remember

My fever then led to 4 hours of violent chills and I didn’t realize that much time had gone by! My fever kept rising to 39.5°C and so baby was cooking inside with a super high heartbeat of 200+ bpm

Labour wasn’t progressing and they warned me that they might have to do an emergency C-section

I was so messed up on tons MORE drugs and the fever that I barely remember parts of it/wasn’t conscious for some of it, and it went by quickly for me

Our main nurse told Phil later that everyone was trying to keep calm, but if we waited another hour to see if I was dilated more or if my fever went down, then we would’ve lost our little guy
