🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️Love is Love.🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Even though I don’t personally identify as LGBTQ+ I wouldn’t want to live in a world without them.
💛
I am constantly learning and expanding from perspectives and lifestyles that differ from mine.
🙏
It is up to all of us to create a society that is more inclusive for all identities.
🌈
A world where everyone feels free to be their authentic Self on the outside, as much as the inside.

I know my highest purpose in this lifetime is to be a Mother, and so this is the role in which I can make the greatest influence.
💫
I vow to do my very best in raising children who will be accepting, compassionate and loving to themselves and to people of all genders, race, abilities and backgrounds, for the benefit of the generations ahead.
💜💙💚💛🧡❤️
In this work I take great pride.

PS: Gizmo totally crashed the last photo but it was a funny moment. He definitely wanted to be a part of the photo. He supports the message too!☺️

When I was young, I loved visiting Curve Lake First Nation Reserve, a short drive from my home town of Bobcaygeon. My mom would buy me rocks, jewelry, dreamcatchers and other native arts from the Whetung Ojibwa Centre and we always saved room for the yummy bannock bread and jam.🤤

As a child, I was completely oblivious to the trauma and hardships the indigenous people were experiencing. I appreciated their culture, their gifts and their stories.⚪️🟡🔴⚫️

Years later, by witnessing the conditions of indigenous communities across Canada, seeing countless indigenous people homeless and drug addicted and with the revelation of the horrors of Canada’s Residential School System, I have felt so much sorrow, shame and guilt for the mistreatment of the indigenous community.🧡

I know that words are not enough to put an end to the suffering that indigenous people face.

Statements and enactments by national leaders are not enough to right the wrongs of the past either.

👉Less Talk, More Action.👈

This is the message I am receiving from the indigenous community, from those that I look up to for guidance on this journey to Truth and Reconciliation.🙏

Orange shirts, heart emojis and shoes on church doorsteps, while symbolic of the collective grief and support we feel for the families destroyed by the residential schools of Canada, these gestures are not enough for the change necessary to bring real truth and healing.

The traditional culture needs to be restored to the people it was taken away from.

Justice needs to be served for the missing and murdered indigenous women and children across Canada.

Equal funding must be provided for indigenous youth in foster care.

Clean water and resources should be available to the indigenous communities who are living in third world conditions, within this “first world” country.

Stolen lands returned to the people who cared for it long before it was stripped of forests, springs and rock.

Positions of leadership designated for indigenous individuals to ensure their rights are respected when creating and changing legislation.

But please don’t listen to me. Listen to them.

Support Indigenous Communities in ANY WAY YOU CAN.

*Demonstration Only*☝️
This video is my personal Ashtanga practice.🧘‍♀️
I am not certified to teach Ashtanga Yoga as authorized by Sharath Jois (originally developed by Pattabhi Jois- Student of Krishnamacharya; Grandfather of modern Yoga) in Mysore, India.🇮🇳
Astanga is the Sanskrit term referred to in the Yoga Sutras as the “Eight Limbs of Yoga”. Simply put, a set of practices and principles for a morally disciplined and purposeful life.✨
The Jois family has developed several series of Yoga sequences to help Yoga practitioners around the world explore this eightfold path.🌎
Before my first Yoga class, a decade ago, I looked up “Yoga” on YouTube. I found Kino Macgregor; an Ashtanga Yoga Teacher. She broke down the postures in short video clips, making it attainable for me. I followed her online ever since, but never thought I would be able to meet the challenge of the “Ashtanga Primary Series” that she was so devoted to.
All that changed in 2017, after I completed a 200HR Yoga Teacher Training and birthed my daughter. I was looking for more out of Yoga. I found a Vinyasa Teacher Training held by Mike Dynie at Astanga Yoga Ottawa and Mike so generously shared all of his knowledge of Vinyasa and love for Ashtanga Yoga. It was a great bridge in my practice and my spiritual path.💫
Today with the help of many Ashtanga Teachers I am confident in the Ashtanga Primary Series and even dabbling in Second Series now and then. I share this video of my practice, though it looks slightly different every day, and I urge you to discover this beautiful lineage.💛
With immense gratitude to my Ashtanga Teachers.

✨This mantra has been coming up for me a lot over the past year.
As of late, it’s in my mind constantly. I chant it internally as I hold Yoga postures, breathe, cook, clean, garden, shower and even as I type.
It’s become a vibrational rhythm I can tap into at any moment to become more present, more hopeful, more loving, more free.
What a marvelous gift from the ancient sages.💛🙏✨

low-kaah’-ha
suh-muh-staah’-ha
soo-khee-no’

“May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.”

My heart breaks to see and hear of the suffering that’s currently taking place in India as the pandemic sweeps through Yoga’s homelands.😞
Yoga came into my life when I was extremely unwell. I was not taking care of myself physically, mentally, emotionally. I had lost my way on the spiritual path. Miraculously, this practice found me way out in Edmonton, Alberta💫
Yoga changed the trajectory of my life for the better, in all aspects; my body, my mind, my spirit, my relationships.
It’s followed me back to Ontario, Costa Rica and all the places I have travelled. Yoga has always been there for me.🕉
Practicing and studying for over a decade, I’ve realized that the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda have played a big part in the foundational wisdom that makes up modern physiology, science and medicine.♾
The teachings of Yoga & Ayurveda are reflected in today’s natural health and wellness industries. They do not replace healthcare systems, but provide the practical knowledge, techniques and inspiration which help us take better care of ourselves outside of our health care clinics and hospitals. Which is where we need to stay during these times when illness is surging.🦠
If it wasn’t for the families of India who carried the ancient teachings of the Vedas forward through time, or the Indian Gurus who travelled the globe to share these gifts with the world, we may have ended up with far less to help us deal with this pandemic- both collectively and individually.🙏
In honour of this lineage, I want to give back to the people of India in this time of crisis. I hope you will too. For the love of Yoga.💛

🌑NEW MOON. I’ve always found this stage of the Lunar Cycle to be a good time to REST, SET INTENTIONS and PLAN for the future.
Today I took a “Moon Day” from my physical asana practice and started some seeds.🌱
Syncing this process with the first official cycle of Spring, I hope to start some herbs and vegetables that will keep me harvesting throughout the Summer season.🤞
What are your plans for Spring?🌷

🪴I’m either becoming a Crazy Plant Lady or a Serial Plant Killer.🥀
Hoping for the best!🤞
😅
When we first walked through this house I fell in love with this sunroom. I imagined myself practicing yoga here, surrounded by flowers and foliage. It’s finally starting to come together.🥰
I have to repot a few of these babies, and I bring them in at night, but as the weather gets warmer and more humid, this room is becoming my happy place.

Happy Spring!🌷
Around this time last year my gut health took a rough turn.
Pandemic stress + Change of routine had me suffering from recurring ulcers and gastritis.
Sadly, this is not the first time I have experienced this but I have managed to avoid flare ups by replacing my morning coffee and cereal with warm water and green, raw, alkaline juice.
This stuff is a green miracle and this year I feel better than ever!
I made a video a couple weeks ago of how I make it. Check it out in my feed.
Cheers to good health!

Our Story

I’m Carley; a Wife, Mother and Yoga Instructor.

My online alias, YOGA FLORA, represents an analogy between the workings of nature and those of a yoga practice.

Yoga is about connecting to our true, inner nature by planting the seed of intention, tending to our body like a garden and weeding the distractions of the mind. Hard work pays off in harvesting strength, flexibility, mindfulness, peace and compassion.

Let’s share this yogic journey together, as the body, mind and spirit blossom. Follow me!
