The STEMNet mentorship program aims to pair undergraduate students studying STEM with experienced mentors working or studying in STEM fields, including graduate/professional school students, researchers, professors, nurses, doctors, etc. Mentees would be paired with compatible mentors for a one-time meeting where the mentee can ask questions about careers, schooling, application processes, etc. Each mentor-mentee pairing will only meet once (approx. 30-60 minutes) and the program meeting(s) will occur between February-May, at the discretion of the mentor and mentee.

Participants needed for a study on international students’ ways of making themselves feel at home in Canada. Participants will receive a $10 e-gift card for each meeting.

This study looks at the best ways of bridging the gap between where you formerly lived and your feeling of belonging where you currently live in hopes of easing transition of migration. This is a multi-part online study. You will be asked to participate in 5 online, video-recorded group discussions (1-1.5 hours each) over 6 weeks on Zoom. In addition, you will be asked to complete 3 sets of online questionnaires (20-40 minutes each).

To be eligible you must have moved to Canada in the last 12 months as an international student at a Canadian college or university, be able to read and understand English, and be at least 18 years of age.

There may be some discomfort or anxiety experienced when responding to some questionnaires of a sensitive nature (i.e., depression, feelings of loneliness).

If you are interested, please email Ajani Asokumar at [email protected] for more details on participating.

The ethics protocol for this project has been reviewed and cleared by the Carleton University Research Ethics Board (Clearance #116648). If you have any ethical concerns with the study, please contact the Carleton University Research Ethics Board-B (by phone at 613-520-2600 ext. 4085 or via email at [email protected]). During Covid, the Research Ethics Staff are working from home without access to their Carleton phone extensions. Accordingly, until staff return to campus, please contact them by email.
