Teaching isn't merely a profession for Dan; it's a passion that fuels his drive to make a lasting impact. Dan opens up about the unique pressures that teachers encounter, from the ever-growing list of responsibilities to the desire to meet every student's individual needs. The discussion revolves around the all-too-familiar struggle of balancing personal sacrifices, managing guilt when the answer is "no," and juggling volunteer commitments while maintaining a sense of self.

I was thrilled to have shared insights at the RDN conference this week in Quebec City, engaging with dedicated executive directors and staff from non-profit organizations. These incredible leaders exemplify true passion for their missions, pouring their hearts into making positive change. 💪

🔥 Passion-driven burnout, a topic we delved into, resonated deeply. Their unwavering commitment to their causes is inspiring, but it also puts them at the highest risk of burnout. It's a reminder that even the most passionate hearts need nurturing too. 💔

🛡️ Here are a few strategies we discussed to prevent burnout and maintain the fire of passion:

Self-Care Rituals: Prioritize self-care as a non-negotiable. Regular breaks, exercise, and mindfulness can recharge your spirit.

Delegate with Trust: Empower your team by delegating tasks and trusting their abilities. Remember, you don't have to do it all alone.

Set Boundaries: Define clear boundaries between work and personal life. Disconnecting at times is vital for reenergizing.

Celebrate Progress: Acknowledge even small victories. Celebrating milestones boosts morale and keeps the passion alive.

Passion-driven burnout is a shared challenge, but by fostering a culture of care and implementing these practices, we can continue to drive change without sacrificing our well-being. 🌱

Kelsey is currently completing her final Master of Social Work practicum with Amanda Rocheleau Counselling and Consulting.

She is currently accepting clients aged 16+ for short-term individual counselling through a secure virtual platform.

Her educational background is in psychology, with a focus on development, attachment, and the impact of early life experiences. She has experience working with children and youth, as well as folks with disabilities, mental health challenges, and histories of trauma. Kelsey provides trauma-informed and relationally centred support to clients who are on a journey of self-discovery, whether that includes revisiting things that have happened in the past, working through current challenges, or exploring what the path forward looks like for them.

Drawing on integrated, experiential modalities that foster compassion, embodiment, and connection, Kelsey supports clients in becoming more present and grounded as they move through their day-to-day lives. She enjoys working with clients to explore how they make sense and meaning out of their experiences, and how cultural ideas and early messages—particularly about health, wellness, and the mind-body-spirit connection—show up in the stories that clients tell about themselves, their relationships, and their worlds.

As Kelsey believes that the therapeutic space offers a unique opportunity for clients to be fully present within their stories and to explore them with curiosity and compassion, she sees her role in counselling as one of holding space for each client’s unique story and vision for their lives, working with clients to identify the barriers that keep them from hearing their own inner wisdom, and ultimately helping each client strengthen their own connection to themselves.

Kelsey’s services are pay-what-you-can (ranging from $0-$60 per 1-hour session) and may be reimbursable through some insurance providers.

She is available Monday-Friday between 10am and 7pm, with some additional weekend availability.

Helpers are often so focused on giving to others that they forget to take care of themselves. It's important to remember that self-care is not a luxury, it's a necessity. We cannot continue to give our best if we are burnt out and exhausted. So let's prioritize our own well-being, take time to replenish ourselves, and show up for others with renewed energy and compassion.

Taking care of ourselves is not selfish, it's an act of generosity towards others. When we prioritize our own well-being, we show up more fully and authentically for the people in our lives.

Your inner peace is what the world needs.

Your compassionate energy is what the world needs.

Your light is what the world needs.

If you feel like the suffering that you are paying attention to in the world is consuming you then pause and come back to your heart center. Like the eye of the storm, it is there. A place of calm and safety.

Bring your whole heart to this brokenhearted world and you will make a difference.

Research shows that effective and frequent debriefing opportunities significantly improves the psychological health for those working in healthcare and human service environments.

Naturally, helping professionals want to talk about the difficult things they see, hear and do at work, however, sometimes instead of effectively debriefing, these conversations seem more like venting and offloading.

This is why I created an online course called, "Debriefing as a Helping Professional:
Strategies for Communicating Effectively About Our Work."

This course provides a few simple techniques that helping professionals can use to transform these conversations into helpful dialogue for processing and reflecting on trauma exposure while reducing the risk of transferring secondary trauma onto others.

Register any time for only $35.00 and get life time access to the videos and learning material.
