Happy De-Stress Week Day 2 Everyone! 🤓
I hope everyone is taking some time to unwind and relax during this very busy time of the semester. Today we have a post in collaboration with Carleton Mental Health & Well-being on how to deal with Academic Stress and Expectations as a Health Science Student.
How to deal with academic stress and deadlines:
- Staying organized and prevent procrastination by making daily or weekly to-do lists and prioritizing the most important tasks. Use calendars, planners, or both to make sure you’re on top of your stuff!
- Talk about it with others. School can get overwhelming. Relating with a classmate, venting to your parents, or talking to a professional can definitely help with dealing with some of those stressors.
- Connect with course instructors and ask for help when needed. Your instructors all went to school at one point too, and it’s safe to say they all felt overwhelmed at some point. Reaching out and explaining your situation to them, asking for help or clarification, or even extensions, can never hurt. They may even provide you with tips or tricks that other students don’t have, just because you asked.
- Take time to relax! It’s important to remember that your body and brain need rest! If you don’t choose a time to rest your body, it will choose a time for you. You won’t be your best self if you don’t give yourself time to rest!
- Reconsider your commitments. As an undergraduate student trying to beef up their CV and applications, it’s easy to over-commit to various initiatives or groups. A constant fragmentation of time is not healthy! It’s important to consider: what do you enjoy the most? What is most useful to you, your future, or society? Restructure and adjust your commitments based on what is truly important, and what you have the most fun doing. Your CV does not define you!
Always remember that you don’t need a perfect GPA and do not need to follow the expected career choices for this field! Be kind to yourself 😇
