Super proud of these two smart women who did did an amazing job at the poster session yesterday.
Placenta Lab members are in Buenos Aires for the 2019 IFPA meeting. Soaking up all the amazing science being done around the world.
This weekend The Placenta Lab will be taking part in the 2nd Annual Ottawa Promise Walk for Preeclampsia. This event raises funds which supports awareness initiatives and research efforts aimed at tackling this devastating disease of pregnancy which kills almost 70,000 women each year!
As many of you know, The Placenta Lab spends considerable time trying to understand this disease, identify ways to prevent it from happening and improving health outcomes for both moms and babies affected by preeclampsia. Our group has been a recipient of research funding from this organization, helping us discover that preeclampsia is not just one disease(!), but instead is "catch all" diagnosis given to a group of several different types of placental diseases - all arising for totally different reasons. This is really game-changing research, allowing us for the first time to design therapies which target the underlying problem (the type of placenta disease) instead of simply trying to manage moms symptoms. Without this research funding, these types of breakthroughs would not be possible!
Please consider donating to this great cause - any amount helps!
Our group will also have an info booth set up at the event with information about the disease itself, our new(ish) knowledge regarding the long term cardiovascular effects of preeclampsia for mom, and the research our group is doing here in Ottawa. So feel free to stop by if you want to learn more.
When: Sunday, May 5; 8:30-11:30
Where: Terry Fox Stadium, Mooney's Bay, Ottawa
