Remembering a friend and neighbour, Rolf Almstedt

I have so many fond memories of Rolph. My heart is so sad that he is gone. I'll share two today.

Memory # 1: Rolph and I very newly acquainted. The first time I got a puppy, Dexter. Rolph asked if he could bring him for a walk to show the church and seniors across the road. I of course said yes. 1.5 hours later and half a heart attack full of fear that perhaps Rolph had dropped his leash, he'd gotten run over, something...anything. Dexter returns. Rolph the happiest guy ever. Dexter the happiest puppy ever. From that point on, no matter where I was, if I said, "Hi Rolph" Dexter would immediately start wagging his tail and doing his little doggy whine (WE ALL KNOW) out of excitement. Not long to follow enter Madie and the same thing.

Memory #2: It was one of those days, I had to open Masters N Dogs for Lynne Woods (a wonderful employer) and I had walked out to my car window smashed in. I wiped off the drivers seat and drove the 2 minutes to open the store, if I had walked, I would have been late.
As I was working, I began to feel very unwell. I would lay on the floor, a customer would come in, I'd stand up with the shakes and sweats (Dave Loney on his way into the store to relieve me). At one point, Rolph had walked in. As I struggled minimal conversations with Rolph, I ran to the washroom to be ill. Rolph walked out of the store and came back a few minutes later with Tylenol. He waited until Dave arrived, he wanted to make sure I was okay.

He was such a sweet man with the biggest and kindest of hearts. He would go above and beyond for anyone. He was Westboro's Local Celebrity. Always gave back and made you smile. He could chat your ear off but it was fun listening to him talk about all the dogs, different local store owners, the garden and his Brother who loved him dearly. I know I won't be alone in saying, "You will be missed Rolph."

Rest well in Rainbow Bridge. I know all the dogs are happy to see you. Say Hello to Yin, Trouble and Brutus for me.
