Choice of words can be powerful, which is why we use the title TRUTH & Reconciliation. As devastating as it is to learn about the injustices indigenous people on Turtle Island have faced since the beginning of colonization, we need this component of truth in order to move forward.

#ReconciliACTION is the response to Gourd Downie’s #DoSomething initiative.

🔶

Does anyone inspire you on your journey of reconcilAction? Is there a resource you find helpful? Feel free to shout them out in the comments so we can learn from them!

Have you ever sat down to meditate with busy noises all around you?

🗝 We might see these noises as distractions OR we can see them as the key to tapping into the present moment.

🎻 Your life is a symphony. Feel free to visit the link in my bio to enjoy a 9min guided relaxation.

Hope you enjoy!! 🙏🏻💕

🔵 For everyone who is finding the beauty in being themselves, I see you & I’m cheering for you! 🌈

🟡 Pride reminds us that we are precious, and worthy of being whole in every space.

🟠 When we celebrate pride in this way, we’re practicing the heart of yoga: union. More than “labels,” we’re celebrating the #UNION between our Selves and the World!

Thank you! Class this Sunday is in the true spirit of yoga: union. No matter where we are in the world, we are a community. ☀️🌱

Posted @withregram • @carolslightorg

We at Carolslight, and our partner @joygawithheather , are lucky to live in places where a large portion of our populations have been vaccinated. Thankfully, case numbers continue to decrease and we can see a time when we’ll be able to hug our loved ones again.

The spread of COVID in India has shocked the world into action. Many organizations are working together to provide relief in various ways.

This Sunday, 100% of the proceeds of our Yoga Class will go to @chalogive . Here’s what they do with the money:

➡️ COVID Care Centres - Isolating COVID patients in COVID Care Centers is the most effective way to control the pandemic and prevent transmission, morbidity and mortality.

➡️ Cash Support for Family of Deceased - the loss of a family member comes with unexpected costs and a loss of income.

➡️ Food Relief and Livelihood Assistance - provide relief and support to the most vulnerable communities, including old age homes, artisans, s*x workers, transgender groups, etc.

🌟 To sign up for the class, please visit the link in our bio.💐 We are stronger together.

Hi! ☀️ I thought I’d re-introduce myself on here. 🤗 Here are 10 random facts about me.

1.) The first yoga class I ever took was in 2010. I was SO afraid to take my socks off! Thank goodness I did. 🧦🦶🏻

2.) I had no idea for years that practicing yoga was my way of processing trauma. I’m so grateful for the practice and the fact that I get to share it with others.

3.) I love baking because it’s usually a gift, or part of a shared experience. My favourite thing I’ve ever baked is Butter Tarts (WITH raisins! 🇨🇦) for my grandma

4.) I went to school for Early Childhood Education because I love working with kids and I’m hoping to go back to school soon (more on that later🤞🏻)

5.) My most favourite tv shows are The Office and Ru Paul’s Drag Race. (And by favourite, I mean they’re on replay…) 🌹
6.) I think crocodiles are the scariest animal in the world. They’re pretty much living dinosaurs with a bajillion teeth. Please no. 🦖🐊

7.) Growing up, acid reflux disease bothered me a lot. When I had flare ups, I would walk around so hunched over that my family gave me the nickname “Number 7.” I’m totally convinced that healthy eating and yoga are what reduced my symptoms. 7️⃣

8.) When I was a kid, I thought I would grow up to be an archaeologist. (????)

9.) The next big trip I want to take is to India. The BAPS in Brampton has a space called The Understanding Hindu Dharma Exhibition, which is dedicated to the influence of Hindu/Indian culture through history. I bawled my eyes out when I visited. When it re-opens, I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour. 🕌🙏🏻

10.) Even though I’m proficient in ZERO instruments, I love music. I would say my favourite genres are rock & funk. 🕺

If you made it through that, thanks! By no means am I the #MostInterestingWomanInTheWorld lol. But I am so grateful to connect with you on here.

Do we have anything on this list in common? Let me know your fave show, the animal you think is scariest, or the next place you want to visit 🧳

The other day I realized my social anxiety extends to myself 😅

Please lol with me because I found this fascinating..

I sat down to meditate, and noticed a lot of resistance. I felt uncomfortable, like I was on a blind date.

Sitting with myself in silence, I wondered, “is this going to be awkward? What will I say to myself?”

I laughed. It broke the tension.

Now that I was with ‘me,’ I wasn’t so scary.

The more I sit with myself, the better the relationship gets. The word is ‘intimate.’

No one is perfect- not my friends, or my family or me. My social anxiety tempts me to avoid intimacy, but that doesn’t change how imperfect we all are. Instead it creates a reality where I believe everything is separate. Where I believe I can avoid things and even myself.

I come to the mat to change that perspective.

I’m so grateful for this practice because it helps me be me. It helps me be a friend, sister, daughter, partner, ally.

Feel free to send me a message or comment on this post. It will help me practice non-avoidance 🤣🙌🏻

❤️ May 5 is #RedDressDay and National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman and Girls in Canada.

❤️ The number of #MMIWG2S is disproportionately high. Between 2000-2008, Indigenous women and girls made up 10% of Canada's female homicides, while only making up 3% of the total female population.

❤️ We can honour our sister and create a new reality by reflecting, learning, protesting, writing politicians and contributing to the movement. And by sharing #MMIWG2S

This month, we’re exploring the theme of Union (which is the most commonly referred to translation of yoga, or, ‘to yolk.’) Let’s talk about what that means on and off the mat. We have 2 classes this month. 100% of the proceeds will be going to charities. You can learn more and sign up through the link in my bio.

🧞‍♀️ No kneeling? No problem!

One-legged pigeon pose (as seen in the last slide) can be uncomfortable to enter or stay in for a long time partly because we often enter it from kneeling. If poses on your knees aren’t your fave, no worries! You can still stretch your hip flexor muscles and glutes in the “number 4 position” or in the chair.

🍃 Taking a pose that feels good & honours your body is one way to start relaxing your nervous system.

Wanna practice together? Class is happening this Sunday! Register through bio 💓 @ Toronto, Ontario

✍️ Props are like a love letter to the body, “I won’t force you to go past capacity. I honour you exactly as you are.”

🐦 Eka Pada Rajakapotasana has always been one of my favourite poses. Here you can see some variations, including keeping a prop under the hip (the one where your knee bends) and having something to lean forward on.

🪡 These props help us “being the floor closer to us” instead of forcing it the other way around.

Would you use props in your practice?

Do you feel stuck in a rut in your self-care?

Our needs aren’t linear. Sometimes we might feel unsure of how to cope, what we need and how to get it.

Here are my 4 tips for figuring it out. 🏹

➡️ Keeping track of your thoughts, feelings, mood, sleep habits, eating habits, and more can indicate your level of need for self-care

➡️ Sometimes we have a vague sense of what we need, and a good friend is like a clean mirror. They help you see your own reflection, and provide you with the encouragement you need to take the next steps for self-care

➡️ To learn more about the 8 dimensions of wellness, hit the link in my bio

➡️ Self-care can be about saying yes or saying no. What do you need to say no to in your life?

💞 No judgement for having needs

*These tips aren’t replacements for help from mental health professionals
