EXHIBITION PRESS RELEASE on Birth Undisturbed

Too many women are being told that they’re not producing enough milk for their babies, making formula look as the only option. While this may be true for a very small percentage of women, it is NOT the case for most. And for those who are having some issues, there is help available ranging from improving latch, correcting tongue ties, herbs and medication.
One of the biggest worries (there are many!) mums have when it comes to breastfeeding is that they aren't producing enough milk to meet their baby's needs. But what we might not realize, or we forget, is that a baby's stomach is not the same size as an adult. If baby is producing a good amount of wet diapers and gaining weight these are good signs of an adequate supply. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That being said, this doesn't mean that supply issues don't ever happen. There are many reasons some mums experience supply issues, which is why I strongly recommend meeting with a lactation consultant (IBCLC). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Clinic re-opening: I'm excited to announce that I will be back in the clinic this Saturday June 6th for in-person visits. For those who still prefer telemedicine appointments, those are definitely still available. I will also be resuming the vitamin shot bar services.
Are you looking for a new recipe to try this weekend? This one is packed with cabbage which contains I3C, a compound that helps the liver to its detoxification duties. Great for anyone who wants to follow a diet that helps with hormone balancing for conditions such as PCOS, acne, PMS, and painful periods. I hope you enjoy!

Pregnancy and sugar cravings: lately I've been hearing of pregnant women eating crazy amounts of sugar in the form of doughnuts, candy, chocolate, ice cream, Tim Bits etc either now that they're pregnant or in previous pregnancies. There is a general cultural idea that it's normal for this to happen during pregnancy but as an ND, I have to analyze my patients diets to ensure that they are getting optimal levels of protein, fibre and good fats. Ensuring this, can take care of many of those cravings and uncontrollable overeating during pregnancy. Why is this important? for many reasons!! eating lots of refined sugar can put you at higher risk of getting gestational diabetes and thus increasing likely of needing interventions during birth. Good protein intake can reduce your risk of getting pre-eclampsia, a serious condition during pregnancy that can also have a negative impact on your baby and these are just 2 reasons of the many why high sugar intake is not a good idea. Naturopathic doctors can play a key role in helping you figure out a good nutrition plan for you during your pregnancy and for other issues that may arise.
Speaking of pregnancy, I'm expecting our second boy in 3 months so for anyone who would like to see me before I take some time off, feel free to book an appointment at any of my locations! www.draida.ca
If you can breastfeed indiscreetly, do it! It could have big and beautiful benefits for our wacky western culture where we can’t seem to completely cut the BS of shaming those nursing their babes whenever and wherever the wee ones ask for it.
Having helped 100s of people new to lactation to figure it out, I truly believe that if we knew what nursing really looked like — baby hunger cues, proper latch, true drinking at the breastfeeding, the signs of a full and satisfied babe — we might not have so many struggles. Easier breastfeeding for all! And happy World Breastfeeding Week!
Is this really happening? This is another example of us relying more on technology for basic, day-to-day tasks. We are giving away our use of common sense and instincts. I also wouldn't want my babe exposed to even MORE radiation especially near their reproductive system! I wish this doesn't result in any future issues with fertility, cancers, etc. Pricing is still to be determined; it would be interesting to see how much these will cost. https://www.mother.ly/news/pampers-lumi-smart-diapers-track-your-babys-urine-output?fbclid=IwAR1YX5ULwKZJIrXuhx3JpfoScq_q5ChnzvRQ1s8r26ubdRun0QpFmu_JZV4
Would you use these diapers, mama?
Ever tried cupping for your aches and pains? I've been using this technique a lot lately since I've been seeing lots of pain conditions such as low back pain and I'm really impressed with how much it's helping people!

I love mushrooms for their beautiful flavours, textures and their medicinal benefits. This is very interesting research that may warrant an increased intake of mushrooms! https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/910668?src=wnl_edit_tpal&uac=220934HX&impID=1913359&faf=1
Healthy diet and lifestyle are increasingly being linked to a lower risk of mild cognitive impairment or dementia. New research suggests mushrooms may have particular neuroprotective effects.

STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF DR PETER FISHER, PRESIDENT OF THE FACULTY OF HOMEOPATHY
The Faculty of Homeopathy has to announce with great sadness, news of the death of the Faculty President, Dr Peter Fisher in a road accident near the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine (RLHIM), London, UK, on the morning of 15th August 2018.
Dr Fisher was Director of Research at the hospital, Europe’s largest centre for integrative medicine. He was previously Honorary Consultant Rheumatologist at King's College Hospital. He was also one of the world leaders in homeopathic research, and will be sorely missed not only by his family and UK friends and colleagues but around the whole world.
A graduate of Cambridge University and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the Faculty of Homeopathy, he was a widely published expert in rheumatology and forms of complementary and alternative medicine. Dr Fisher chaired the World Health Organisation’s working group on homeopathy and was a member of WHO’s Expert Advisory Panel on Traditional and Complementary Medicine. He was awarded the Albert Schweitzer Gold Medal of the Polish Academy of Medicine in 2007.
Further detail will appear on the website in due course. For further information contact:

Nursing a toddler is not "extended breastfeeding". It's just breastfeeding. Calling it "extended" implies that the norm would be to stop breastfeeding before toddlerhood. The cessation of breastfeeding on or around 6 months or 12 months or whenever is largely impacted by societal views about breastfeeding, but those reasons should NOT be defining whether something is called extended or not.
There are benefits to nursing your child for longer periods of time. There is a very solid meta-analysis by Peres in 2015 that demonstrates that nursing for longer periods of time improves dental occlusion - the mechanism is that breastfeeding is nature's palate expander and allows for teeth to have more room to erupt appropriately. Breastfeeding a toddler during times of stress, injury, or any other need to give comfort is very important to the child as well. Most importantly, as described by both the AAP and WHO, breastfeeding should continue for as long as it's mutually desireable.
The language we use to describe breastfeeding is very important. How can we as a country/world improve breastfeeding rates if we arbitrarily decide when it should stop? We shouldn't. Using this sort of language goes against the AAP/WHO recommendations and marginalizes those who want to continue.
