Why do I integrate movement in my wellness workshops?

Because wellness isn’t just something we talk about - it’s something we feel in our bodies!

Including movement within wellness trainings creates space to:

✨Bring an element of fun & play

✨Help people feel more engaged

✨Shift the energy in the room

✨Create connection & community

✨Wake up the body & invite presence

✨Experience what wellness feels like

✨Make the learning more interactive

To better understand wellness, we can move our way into it. Sometimes a shimmy or shake and conscious breathing is all it takes.

💫Movement helps turn an idea into an experience - something participants can connect with, embody, and take away with them beyond the workshop into daily life!

This video is from a wellness workshop that I presented at U of T when I was completing my MEd at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto Department of Leadership, Higher & Adult Education. Also with inspiration from my education at the U of T Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education, I continue to keep my workshops experiential - blending movement, reflection, and practical strategies!

Today, on World Gratitude Day, I'm reflecting on Success Within!

What if success isn't just about what we accomplish...but about how we feel as we live our lives?

We're often taught to measure success by titles, milestones, productivity, and what we can check off the list.

But there comes a point when those old measures no longer feel as meaningful.

Maybe our new definition of success looks like:

☀️Energy - having the vitality to show up for what matters

💚Presence - being fully here instead of constantly rushing toward the next thing

✨Joy - creating space for the things that genuinely light us up

Success on the inside is about more than achievement. It's about feeling alive, grounded, connected, and fulfilled!

By redefining success, perhaps it's easier to experience gratitude!

We can ask ourselves:
💫 Does our current definition of "success" fit the person we are becoming?

In my Wellness Coaching practice, we chat more about energy, presence, joy and gratitude!

There's something about standing on the sand, looking out across an expansive body of water, and letting the breeze move through us.

Living at The Beaches in Toronto, I enjoy looking at this lake throughout the year. Growing up in Connecticut 5th-11th grade, I visited New York more often and had a view of this same lake. While studying at the University of Toronto, I gained an appreciation of Lake Ontario as a "great lake," "beautiful lake," and "lake of shining waters". Spending more quality time by this lake helped me get through the pandemic.

During the winter, I’ve enjoyed vacations at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where I lived during 12th grade. I have fond memories studying Marine Biology at Pine Crest School including a field trip to the ocean! One year I lived in California and loved the beach there too. In the summer, I enjoy a vacation in Haliburton Highlands visiting family at Cressy Lake which also has a lovely beach.

Whether it's a lake or an ocean, the experience of being at a beach is powerful!

✨Sand grounds us.
Feeling our feet connected to the earth can bring our attention out of our busy minds and into the present moment.

✨🌊Water creates space.
The gentle movement of a lake or the rhythm of waves can naturally encourage us to slow down, breathe mindfully, and become aware of our surroundings.

✨Light and open space shift our perspective.
A wide horizon can offer a sense of spaciousness when life has felt crowded, overwhelming, or overly focused on the small details.

✨Nature asks nothing of us.
We don't have to achieve, produce, or perform. We can simply be!

When we pause long enough to reconnect with our senses, our breath, our body and the natural world around us, we create an opportunity to return to alignment-to notice what we need, what matters most in life, and what feels true.

Wellbeing isn't always about adding more. Sometimes it's about coming back home to ourselves.

The next time you're near a beach, try this:
✨Take off your shoes and feel the sand beneath your feet
✨Notice your breath
✨Look toward the horizon
✨Sense your body speaking to you

Or visualize yourself standing on the sand, looking out at a lake or ocean, hearing the sounds around you.

Then ask yourself:
✨What do I need more of right now?
✨What can I let go of?
✨What would feeling aligned look like today?

Our wellbeing can begin with pausing, connecting to our body & breath, noticing our surroundings, and resting for a moment in awareness itself.

Sometimes fear shows up because we're stepping outside of what's familiar.

✨We try something new
✨We take a risk
✨We have that uncomfortable conversation
✨We put ourselves out there

Our heart might start racing. We may feel anxious and nervous...but underneath it, curious with a spark of possibility!

Feeling a little fear may tell us we're in the right place. Breathe into the moment and that fear might just turn into excitement.

This is how I felt when I began training in the FAR infrared heat!

2 years ago I was completing my certification to teach with Oxygen Yoga & Fitness. I was already an experienced yoga teacher & fitness leader, but had not yet experienced the energy of teaching in infrared heat.

Leading hot yoga & fitness in the infrared feels different! It takes extra stamina and continues to challenge me...that's part of why I enjoy it. When something becomes too easy, we may not feel like we're growing and evolving.

When we step into a little fear that turns into excitement, it can be transformative, stretching us without destroying our sense of safety. We move through it, learn from it, and often discover we're capable of more than we thought.

But there's another kind of fear. The kind that overwhelms the nervous system. The type of fear in which we don't feel challenged, but feel threatened. Where our body and mind are flooded beyond what we can process. Where there isn't enough safety, support, or capacity to integrate what's happening. That fear doesn't necessarily help us grow. Sometimes it even leaves a wound.

Often I hear people talking about the importance of being "fearless". It can be helpful to step into certain situations with less fear, however no fear can be dangerous. Fear is here to help us and guide us. We don't have to traumatize ourselves in order to grow.

Yes, growth often lives at the edge of our comfort zone, but that doesn't mean it needs to be beyond our capacity to feel safe.

As we step into fear, we can ask ourselves, does this fear have a little excitement woven into it, or am I becoming overwhelmed?

While there's courage in stretching ourselves, there's wisdom in sensing when we need to pause, step back, regulate, or gracefully pivot turn and choose something different.

While teaching in the infrared heat, I don't feel that fear any more, but I do still feel that excitement, and I've honoured my capacity along the way including taking my electrolytes.

I've also experienced the benefits of training in the infrared:

✨Detoxifying sweat at the cellular level
✨Pain release as the heat penetrates the tissue, joints and muscles
✨Purification of skin with the elimination of toxins and increasing circulation

What challenging things have you explored that started out with fear then turned into excitement and had a positive impact?

Glutathione matters for Brain Health!

Brain health depends on balance.

From energy production to antioxidant protection and immune regulation, multiple systems work together to support how the brain functions.

Glutathione plays a central role in maintaining that balance - supporting the body's natural defense systems at the cellular level.

Because glutathione must be produced internally, supporting its natural production is key.

Low Glutathione is linked to 100+ health conditions. Immunocal helps change that. The only patented, clinically proven way to naturally raise glutathione levels.

In addition to my mindfulness practice, here's 3 things that support my daily wellness:
1) Water
2) Movement
3) Immunocal

As the wellness industry continues to grow, there's a lot of hype out there. Apparently we need cold plunge, red light therapy, mouth tape, grounding mat, sleep tracker, 5am workouts & more.

For me, Immunocal continues to make the cut. I take it every morning.

08/06/2026

Something I've been thinking about lately is the importance of not confusing a person's public brand with their whole identity. We're all more layered than what fits on our profile.

What we choose to share publicly is just that: what we choose to share. It doesn't have to tell the full story of who we are, everything we've experienced, details around every value and what we're working through, or what our whole life looks like behind the scenes.

And there's also a difference between virtual reality and real life. Our social media presence is curated. A brand is intentional. We choose the parts of ourselves, our work, our experiences, and our perspectives that we feel belong in that space. That doesn't make them fake - it simply means that they are one part of a much bigger picture.

In person, we get the nuances that a screen can't capture: the face to face conversations, the energy, the pauses, the laughter, the vulnerability, the context.

💜Let's not mistake the online brand for the person’s entire life.

💜Let's not mistake the content for the whole story.

💜Let's not assume that what someone says publicly is everything they are.

We are much more multidimensional than our brand reveals.

Looking forward to leading more in-person trainings & workshops this fall and connecting with the many layers that make us human beings both interesting and fun!

For years, I noticed a common trend: once someone earns a master's degree, their undergraduate credential often disappears from their professional profile.

Although I completed my Master of Education (MEd) at Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto in 2014, I've chosen to continue including my Bachelor of Physical & Health Education (BPHE) as part of my credentials.

For me, that choice feels authentic and aligned as I'm still applying what I learned through my undergraduate education every day. The trainings & workshops that I lead continue to be shaped not only by my MEd, but also by the strong foundation I gained through my courses and learning experiences at U of T’s Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education. I also still enjoy integrating movement within my wellness coaching practice.

The curriculum has evolved over the years, and while Kinesiology has replaced the BPHE, there is still great value in what I learned during my undergrad. Beyond the practical knowledge and skills, friendships with classmates developed not just through academic lectures, but through meaningful and fun experiential learning opportunities, and I am looking forward to our reunion in 2027!

Credentials tell a story! A master's degree is incredibly valuable, but that doesn't mean we need to drop our undergrad education from our professional profile. My BPHE along with my MEd from the University of Toronto continue to influence how I deliver interactive trainings & workshops that help individuals and organizations experience greater energy, alignment & wellbeing in their daily lives.

Rather than viewing one credential as replacing another, I see them as building upon each other. Together, they reflect the more full journey of my formal education at U of T and the learning that has shaped my professional path. I also enjoyed completing the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Certificate Program at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. All of these experiences taught me to stay curious!
