Hair Transplant Surgery is a simple surgical procedure in which the hair restoration physician harvest hair from the back and sides of the head (donor area) in a strip or by extraction of follicular units and replants it into the balding areas (recipient area). The donor hair is programmed to continue to grow during the life of the patient. Hair Transplantation can be used to treat hair loss of sc
alp, eyebrows, eyelashes, facial hair, body hair etc...
At the present time hair transplantation can only use the donor’s own hair. Most men and women with hair loss can be suitable candidates for this procedure. The candidate need to undergo laboratory testing to exclude medical conditions which may be a contraindication for this minor surgical procedure. Special pre-surgical instructions to the patient include avoidance of blood thinners one week prior to the surgery. The surgical procedure can take up to 8 hours or more to be performed, using the talent of skilled technicians and an experienced physician, and depending on the amount of follicular units to be planted. The procedure is carry out in an approved Out of Hospital Premises level 2 under local anesthetics which is locally infiltrated into the donor and recipient areas. During the surgery the patient can take nourishment, break for stretching, has access to the washroom, watch videos, television, listen to the music or sleep. After the procedure the patient is discharged by the physician with written post-surgical instructions in which a telephone number for emergency is provided. The patient receives a phone call from the physician early the next day to assure there are not concerns or questions. In most cases the patient can return to work in two days depending on his/her occupation. Contact sports should be avoid for two weeks. The hair can be washed as usual the next day. If you wish to conceal the transplant you can wear a loose hat to cover the transplant the next day. Combing and styling can begin in two weeks. The stitches are not required to be removed since they dissolve on their own. Follow up appointment is booked in six months unless the patient requires an earlier follow up. This procedure is very forgiving and the risk of infection or complications is remote. The hair begins to grow in three to four months. The full effect of the transplantation is visible in a year.
