My research on botanicals for treatment following a concussion 🤕

: Brain Injury Awareness Month 🧠

Approximately 200,000 Canadians suffer from mild traumatic brain injuries each year. This form of injury can have immediate and long-lasting effects that can seriously impact a person's quality of life. A CCNM student and faculty member were involved in conducting a narrative review on the use of curcumin and ginseng following mild traumatic brain injury. They found that there may be a preventative and therapeutic relationship between the phytochemicals found in curcumin and ginseng and reducing inflammation and oxidation in brain tissue post-injury.

GOAL SETTING 🌟

Since graduating from varsity - I’ve been looking for ways to maintain strong physical health. One area of sport I’ve noticed significantly declining over time was my endurance! 😅

This year I’ve set a goal to run a full marathon in Fall 2022! 🏃🏻‍♀️
Now I’ve never been much of a runner (or ever liked running), so there will be lots of training involved in this process leading up to the big day! 😤

I want to thank my wonderful supervisor for inspiring me to set this goal 🤩
I also want to thank .puersten for volunteering to train and run the marathon with me - and for buying us marathon quality running shoes 👟😍

If you have similar goals of getting back into sport, or just being more active, you can book an appointment with myself under the supervision of Dr. Teasdale, ND Tuesday afternoons at 💜
We can provide support in nutrition, supplementation, improving performance, injury prevention, training scheduling, rehabilitation, and quality equipment!

💪 Repost from .med, naturopathic medical student at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine! . .
My biggest motivation?
… Myself in 10 years! 🤩
My biggest competition?
… The person I was yesterday! 💛

Recently I’ve looked back at how far I’ve come and realized I am living my past self’s dream! 🥰

I am very fortunate to be able to study and do what I love ❤️ My clinical internship has confirmed and heightened my passion for naturopathic medicine, and furthered my interest of care towards female athletes! 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺

To think I only have 5 months left of my clinical internship is wild! However, I am excited to enter the next stages toward my dream career! 😍

We are accepting new patients at ! 😊 Tap the link in my bio to book your visit!

One of the most exciting things about clinical internships is seeing real changes take place in the health of the patients you are guiding. Check out this update from .med on Instagram: . . . .
I cannot believe I am over 1/3 of the way finished my clinical internship! 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺
✅ 400+ hours
✅ 100+ patients seen

My favourite modalities to use are:
🌱Botanical Medicine
🌱Traditional Chinese Medicine
🌱Physical Medicine

My favourite area of focus is:
💚Wholistic female sports medicine

It is unbelievable how fast my internship is flying by! My shifts are getting much busier and some days I am fully booked! 🤩

I think the most exciting part of this experience is seeing patients improve with my researched and thought out treatment plans 🥰

I am still accepting new patients virtually and in-person (open to anyone in Ontario)👩🏻‍⚕️ Tap the link in my bio to book a visit!

Why sports medicine? 🤔

My philosophy is that before you are an athlete ... you are a PERSON! 💛

You have organs, tissues, and vessels which are put under stress each time you train, compete, and perform - regardless of the level! Therefore, all your physiological systems are affected as an athlete, thus athletes truly need wholistic care! 💜

Wholistic care for an athlete should encompass the musculoskeletal system, in addition to all the other physiological systems within the body, as well as the mind, and the spirit.

Mental health plays a huge role in an athlete’s performance and career. Also, the injuries an athlete endures during sport, and the physical and mental stress continually put onto the body, can cause detrimental effects as the athlete ages. 🤕 Mental health and preventative care for athletes are elements in medicine that I feel are not well represented (yet)!

My ultimate goal as I begin to enter the medical profession, is to bring a wholistic health approach to athletes of all levels!

Whether you play sports recreationally, competitively, at an elite level, or are a coach looking for athlete optimal care guidance, you can book a visit with my supervisor and me:

Mini but mighty

Thrilled to announce I’ve accepted my offer to join the sports medicine focus shift during my clinical internship year at beginning this May! 🎉

On the sports medicine focus shift, naturopathic modalities are utilized to prevent and treat injuries and optimize the health of athletes ranging from weekend warriors to elite athletes. 🏋🏻‍♂️ We look for the root cause of chronic pain brought on by sport and/or exercise, and help to maintain your exercise routine and fitness goals! This shift places specific emphasis on evidence-based performance-nutrition strategies that range from daily nutrition requirements to very specific ergogenic sport supplementation.

See you there Tuesdays 2-8PM under the supervision of Dr. Teasdale 👩🏻‍⚕️

👩🏻‍⚕️CLINIC MENTORING👩🏻‍⚕️

This term of schooling is all about getting my class & myself ready to enter the world of clinic! ☺️🏥

Up until now, we have only shadowed Naturopathic Doctors and watched as they took cases, conducted research, and prescribed treatment plans. Now we actively involved in the patient cases.

What does this mean?

We are being transitioned from 3rd year naturopathic medical students into 4th year interns at the RSNC!!

This semester I am being mentored by the lovely under the supervision of Dr. P. Patel, ND! 🥰 When my mentor completes her internship in May, I will become the primary intern for the cases we are currently working on together!

This is an exciting time, full of learning and new experiences! 🤩 For now, everything is virtual, given the Toronto lockdown. However, I cannot wait to apply all the medical knowledge I have gained over the years of schooling - and of course continue to learn and advance my clinical skills! 🤓
