In a study done in 2008, it said - “Being overweight can have a significant impact on your level of anxiety - and ultimately your health in general”. Roughly 30% of the world’s population is overweight. In addition, anxiety in the US affects around 18% of the population.

Transformation Tuesday, here we go. A few posts back, I briefly mentioned my 2018. If you missed it, it is me pointing and asking “Want to Lose Weight?” Today, I want to talk about the bigger issue. The anxiety that came with it. Anxiety and weight gain, formed this vicious cycle, creating a BIG problem for me. It affected my relationship with myself, my partner, and my business. I had to change, to transform, from the inside, out. These photos show the outside transformation, but more importantly, that smile isn’t fake (maybe in the first photo, lol). I really did change on the inside. An older version of me would have criticized, oh my abs aren’t pushing out yet, my love handles aren’t completely gone, my back isn’t V’ed out enough, etc. This my friends, is the big difference. This is what transformation truly means to be now. How we transform and see ourselves and our world.

Keto, Paleo, Vegan, Weight Watchers - the list goes on. They all claim to be the silver bullet for weight loss.

There is an ocean of information out there for weight loss and it is confusing. I know, because I was there not too long ago.

In June 2018, I got injured playing football (soccer). I gained 20 lbs from stress, binge eating and drinking to ‘cope’ with the situation. I lost all motivation and self confidence. This had a major impact on my business.

As a Certified Nutritionist I was appalled with myself - How could I possibly help someone lose weight and feel healthy, let alone be more confident?

I finally reached a tipping point four months before my knee surgery. Putting over 5 years of holistic nutrition experience to work, I lost the weight. I seamlessly dropped the 20lbs in 4 months. More importantly, I gained tons of self confidence and mental clarity. I did it by using a customized approach - all with minimal efforts in the gym and, while bringing value to my online community

I’m not a coffee addict but I do loves me some coffee, and the French press, like matcha 🍵 is a process and art

Some possible health benefits of Cold Brew:
-
Increased metabolism and digestion (less acid),
May lower risk of heart disease, but take this with a grain of salt.
-
Here’s my recipe for this lovely cold brew iced latte using my 34oz press 🤙🏽
-
1. Grind 1/2 cup fresh dark roast beans. I use @lairdsuperfood

2. Add grounds to French Press

2. Gently pour in about 4 cups of cool, filtered water into ya press (leaving some clearance at the top)

3. Give a lil gentle stir to make sure all the grounds are saturated by the water

4. Place the top on but don’t press! Leave the lil bit of clearance

5. Place in fridge over night, optimally 12 hours

6. Remove from fridge, press, pour enjoy

* Can add a bit of honey, maple syrup as healthy sweetener, and if ya want a latte, add desired milk - here I used almond milk.

Use a mason jar for storage. Keep in fridge. You have cold brew for about a week!

The idea is to let the liver do its thing, with little aggravation as possible.

This will help with: skin, nail, and hair health, overall health, weight management, relieving sluggishness, and many other ailments. The liver deals with all the toxins we throw at it, so let’s giver’ some TLC.

A detox usually involves, No processed foods, wheat/gluten, alcohol, and cutting back on animal protein or animal fats (for the first little bit).

Not eating like this for ever but in phases or levels for any gamers out there.

It’s Monday! How’s everyone FEELING? I put that word in caps as we don’t talk much about it, but it’s so important that we do!

I find myself not worrying about scales ⚖️ and weight more but how I FEEL and what I feel, all while cultivating a deeper consciousness both with my internal and external environment.
-
While I agree the number you see on the scale is just a number it can give you some insight as to overall “health” but something far more important to me is how and what I feel inside. If you’re not happy with the number you see on the scale now; You. Will. Never. Be. Happy. With. Any. Number. You. See. On. It.
-
What I mean by this is work on cultivating happiness for what you have NOW, and your dreams, wishes, desires, whatever you want to call it will be so much more attainable. Whether that is weight, money, relationships, doesn’t matter, appreciate what you have now, and believe me dear one, the rest is gravy!

Your liver is one of your major detoxification systems. The various methods are by:

• Filtering the blood
• Bile Secretion
• Phase I detoxification
• Phase II which has super sciencey but very cool subcategories:
• Glutathione conjugation
• Amino acid conjugation
• Methylation
• Yadda yadda yadda

To over simplify each method:
-
Filtration - the process of cleaning the blood that comes from the intestines because it is loaded with bacteria, endotoxins (toxins released when bacteria die), antigen-antibodies (crap your immune system has tackled and dealt with), and other toxic substances. It does this at a rate of 2 quarts of blood every minute, so like four pints 🍺.
-
Bile - the carrier of toxins. The bile produced by your liver latches to toxins, sent to the intestine, the bile and toxins are then absorbed by fiber and excreted🚽
-
THATS WHY FIBER IS MUY IMPORTANTE
-
Phase I - 1st part of the two step process. It neutralizes unwanted chemical compounds such as drugs, pesticides, toxins from the gut, as well as, inflammatory chemicals like histamine that if built up become toxic.
-
Phase II - a process is done called conjugation which compounds binds a toxin by adding a small chemical to it that allows it to be excreted more easily by either 💩 or urine 💦.
-
🥦 FOODS THAT HELP THE LIVER DETOX 🍏

High sulfur foods; garlic, legumes, onions, eggs

High fiber foods; pears, apples, legumes, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, artichokes, beets, carrots, dandelion

Herbs: turmeric, cinnamon, and licorice

AVOID

heavily processed foods, conventional meat that is high in antibiotics, excess alcohol, refined sugar, and an excessive amount of saturated fat, sat fats (butter, ghee etc) are good but too much may cause issues.

What I lacked in posts towards the end of year I did my best to make up for with stories of travel, adventure, and wanderlust.

Summer of 2018 sucked and was spent on crutches.
-
Despite being injured, I was extremely grateful for many other experiences. Met new incredible people, visited old friends in distant provinces, experienced abundance of love, support, and witnessed several beautiful souls bind and further commit their love in the ceremony and sacrament of marriage. 🙏🏽 ❤️

Despite injuries and setbacks, 2018 taught me.
-
Taught me patience, deep(er) appreciation and gratitude, self love, and peace.

Wishing everyone a blessed New Year - filled with lessons, love, health, happiness.

#tbt to hot weather and cool smoothie bowls. ☀️ Here’s one for our friends down south (or if you happen to run a little warmer during Winter)

You’ll need:
1 scoop protein powder (we use the vanilla @gardenoflifecanada All-In-One)
2 frozen bananas
2 cups spinach
2 tbsp chia seeds
1/4 cup almond milk
Raspberries
Strawberries
Granola

Throw your protein, spinach, bananas, chia seeds and almond milk in your @vitamix or whatever high-powered blender you use. (We clearly love 1-bowl recipies, it makes for less dishes😉). Blend it all on high speed until no chunks remain.

Top with berries of your strawberries, raspberries, and granola, and voilá!

Probably one of our yummiest (and easiest!) winter recipes. This creamy butternut squash soup will warm you up and give you lots of leftovers.

You’ll need:
Butter
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 medium onion (diced)
2 potatoes (peeled and cubed)
2 stalks celery (chopped)
2 carrots (chopped)
1 butternut squash (peeled and cubed)
Veggie or Chicken stock
-
Throw your butter, garlic and onion into a pot to sizzle 🔥 Once the onions are translucent, throw all your veggies in. Next, cover your veggies with stock and turn up the heat. Once you’re boiling, turn the heat down to a simmer and let it go for 30-40 minutes. Once your veggies are nice and soft, have your immersion blender handy or chuck it all in your #vitamix until no chunks remain. Add in more butter and some salt and pepper to taste.

Hey friends!

For those that read posts, instead of just scrolling and tapping, I wanted to share something with you and ask something of you.

My main purpose when setting up this insta account, separate from my personal one, was to bring what I can to the table, share my love for holistic health, my way, making an impact and impression for healthy living, going beyond food, or in my case, smoothie bowls. LOL.

Keeping up with insta, fb, marketing, and everything else, as a side hustle, plus working for a 9-5 job, it is tough AF (Not complaining, just stating the obvious). Having said that, I need to know what y’all want to see more of so I can deliver for you, for 2019 and moving forward.

My intention is to continue doing health/nutrition tips but will be incorporating more mindfulness. This effort is to inspire and encourage; a more/deeper self love, appreciation (both self and overall), and to elevate your energy and vitality in both your personal and professional spaces.

We are living in an amazing but also scary time. We need more love, connection, compassion, and caring in this world. There is a shift happening, our collective consciousness is raising, and I am doing what I can to spark and stoke that within all of us.

Well they’re actually pretty cool despite being even uglier than the barracuda. They are high in protein and not that high in fats compared to other fishies.
-
My Top ✋🏽Benefits of Monkfish:
-
1. Gives you energy and maintains the chemical balance in your body by providing phosphorus 💥
-
2. High in Selenium. This generates activity of vitamin C and E, enhancing your immune system preventing you from getting sick as often
-
3. Contains Niacin (B3). This helps communication between cells which is also vital for energy production and not feeling like 💩
-
4. Contains Pyridoxine (B6) which is crucial for oxygen circulation. B6 also contributes to feeling happy by helping the brain produce the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine….(🤔maybe that’s why I love fish tacos so much😬) And

5. It has B12! Probably the most popular of the 🐝 . As it is necessary for DNA, and also protects against fatigue, heart disease and cancer.

Not all fish are created equal. The fish typically used in in tacos are halibut and blue finned tuna. Which are both being severely overfished and blue finned tuna carries the highest level of mercury and PCBs. So please - make your own tacos when you can and ensure the source of fish is healthy both for you and the planet - aka wild and not tuna or halibut. Give the monkfish a try, it is typically on sale as a wild option.

🚨BONUS TIP 2🚨

More of a caution tip for the ladies. Please watch out for the use of the contraceptive pill as it can reduce the availability of your B6. You may need to supplement to ensure you are getting the required bees.
