Today is World Diabetes Day.
Language around diabetes is critical to end diabetes stigma, blame and shame. There are too many rumours and misinformation around diabetes. We need to adapt how the media, organisations, policy makers and the wider public talk about it.
On Remembrance Day, we honour those who fought bravely in conflict, supported our soldiers from home, and those who lost their lives during war and peacekeeping missions.

It is cold and flu season 🦠
What is Normal vs. Fever Temperature 🤒
Although the average normal body temperature is 37°C (98.6°F), temperatures naturally rise and fall throughout the day. It is not uncommon to wake up in the morning with a relatively low temperature of 36.3°C (97.4°F) which rises to 37.6°C (99.6°F) by the late afternoon. Your child has their own normal temperature range which may be slightly different from another child. However, temperatures rising above the following thresholds may be indicative of a fever.
Remember, if your baby is under 3 months of age and has a temperature of 38.0°C (100.4°F) or higher, you should call your doctor right away. In younger babies, it’s important to check for infection or disease when a fever arises.
What temperature indicates a FEVER?
Orally 🤒
Higher than 37.5°C (99.5°F)
In the Ear 👂
Higher than 38.0°C (100.4°F)
In the Re**um

Every year, we celebrates National Occupational Therapy (OT) Month throughout October.
This is a time to recognize the important work occupational therapists do in helping Canadians overcome physical, mental and cognitive barriers. With the help of OTs, Canadians can participate fully in the activities that mean most to them.
Occupational therapists help solve problems that interfere with a person’s ability to do everyday things like:
🛋Self-care - getting dressed, eating, moving around the house,
👩💻Being productive - going to work or school, participating in the community, and
🏌🏾Leisure activities - sports, gardening, social activities.
October 17-21, 2022 is National Infection Control Week. Hand sanitizers of at least 60% alcohol are a great alternative when traditional soap and water are not available. It can be difficult to know which one to use. Visit https://bit.ly/3ba6buf for more information
Ontario residents will be able to get their annual flu shot starting on November 1st. Flu shots are now available for those 65+ and those at highest risks.
Getting vaccinated remains the best defence against the flu and COVID-19 to help keep Ontarians healthy and out of hospitals.
The government also announced Thursday that everyone aged 12 and up will become eligible for the bivalent COVID-19 booster dose as of Oct. 17.
Individuals are able to get both shots at the same time.

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
The NorfolkFHT would like to provide an opportunity for staff to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a quiet reflection or participation in a community event.

Norfolk Family Health Team is launching a COVID assessment clinic on September 7, 2022! The clinic will offer both in-person and telephone assessments of COVID+ patients or patients presenting with viral upper respiratory tract symptoms. We also offer telephone [email protected] follow-up and monitoring for patients who require additional supports. We can provide both rapid test kits for patients as well as oximeters for patients to borrow for home O2 monitoring. We currently offer assessment and prescriptions for Paxlovid antiviral treatment. And are working towards providing IV Remdesivir in clinic as well as Evushield injections in the near future.
We are able to provide assessments to patients exhibiting viral symptoms. In addition to COVID testing we also offer rapid strep tests, pertussis swabs, and are applying for influenza swab abilities. We are able to assess and provide treatment for other causes of URTI symptoms such as sinusitis, strep pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia etc as these may present similarly to COVID symptoms.
We are offering these services to all patients who do not have currently have a primary care provider. Patients with a primary care provider must contact their provider first, however can be assessed if they are unable to get an appointment or can be referred by their primary care provider to the clinic. The goal of the clinic is to provide an alternative to ER or urgent care for patients experiencing URTI symptoms requiring evaluation and enhance access for those who may qualify for antiviral treatment. Clinic hours are currently Monday 9-430, Wednesday 12-8, Friday 9-12, and is located in the basement of Delhi Community Health Center address 105 Main St Delhi. The Covid Assessment Clinic can be reached by calling 519-582-2323 EXT 232 or referrals can be faxed to 519-582-1315.
