Are you a Caregiver? Are you taking care of a senior, your parents, a child...are you under 35 and taking care of maybe 2 generations....then this is the event for you...we would like to Lightening the Load!

We will be having a workshop from Marc Fisher from Let's Talk Communication who will be helping us learn how to talk with our clients, our family, our friends about what we need as a caregiver and how we can do this with empathy and understanding on both parts

We will be having Jeunesse Pearson speaking to us in her presentation, What a Pinecone taught me about worth! It will show us how we can mistake the roles we play, the things we achieve and even the ways we've learned to adapt from who we actually are.

We will be having resources available and a mid-morning nutrition break

I know I needed support when I was 18 and starting College. Unfortunately, I was never able to recieve what I needed... I can however, be a support worker to those who need support now.

It is especially challenging for those who are Nero diverse. Which I very much relate to. Since I am older now... Had some life experience and an ever growing understanding of what is needed as we are growing up...

I believe this is to be an invaluable service.

Supports look different for each of us. We cater our services to individuals.

Available to most of the Okanagan. On and Off Campus studies...

The hardest part wasn’t always what happened to my daughter after school. It was trying to explain it to people who never saw it.

They didn’t see the anxiety building the night before. The panic in the mornings, the meltdowns, or how much of herself she had to hold together just to get through the school day.

And they certainly didn’t see what happened when she came home.

Sometimes she’d barely make it through the door before everything she’d been holding in came pouring out. Other times, she’d withdraw completely, exhausted from trying to cope.

But when I tried to explain this, I kept hearing the same thing.

“She’s fine when she’s here.”

And somehow, what I was witnessing every day became something I had to prove.

I wasn’t asking them to believe something impossible. I was asking them to believe what was happening when they weren’t there.

Instead, I found myself answering questions about my parenting. Was I maintaining boundaries? Was I making things worse? Was I encouraging her enough?

But why wasn’t anybody asking what it was costing my daughter to appear okay at school?

Why was the absence of visible distress in the classroom considered stronger evidence than the distress we were living with at home?

Parents see the parts of the school day that nobody else does. The hours before it begins, the aftermath when it ends, and sometimes the days it takes for a child to recover.

It’s one of the reasons I wrote The School Is Lava from the child’s perspective. Because a child shouldn’t have to fall apart in front of a professional before their distress is believed.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND YOUTH GROUP BEING OFFERED AS OF NOVEMBER 2.

We are in the process of creating an after school program. Starting in the Coldstream and Vernon area.

Goal is to start November 2nd. Transportation will be available. Spaces for 8 children and 8 youth. Two Adults per group. We will also be offering options for a couple tutoring hours a week at an additional cost. The plan is to run it Monday to Friday 230pm to 530 pm...

A big focus is going to be staying active outdoors. Aswell as changing our focus every couple months. EX. Crafts, Cooking, Animals, Safety classes and special instructors (might be additional cost).

$10/ hr.

🌅 Familiar routines can provide comfort and predictability — especially for someone experiencing memory or cognitive changes.

A regular routine might include:

☀️ Getting up around the same time
🍳 Having breakfast
💊 Taking medications as directed/reminded
🚶 Going for a walk or doing an activity
🍽️ Regular mealtimes
📺 Enjoying a favourite evening activity
🌙 A consistent bedtime routine

Of course, every person is different.

But sometimes, knowing what comes next can make the day feel a little easier.
