York Region Public Health will not be offering in-school immunization clinics this school year, and will instead be offering community immunization clinics this fall, beginning on Monday, October 5, to ensure that students are still able to receive these important vaccines, whether they are attending school in person or online.

These will be offered to grade 7 students this fall and to grade 8 students who missed their second dose in the spring of 2020 due to school closures.

Appointments will be available online at york.ca/immunizations, by clicking on Immunization Clinics

York Region's municipal website provides access to information and services including public health, road maintenance, bylaws, recreational activities, Regional plans, permits and community support.

Please note that we are experiencing tech issues with our text/email reminders. If you have an upcoming appointment you will not receive a reminder!!

Please be advised we are having trouble with our phone system, our message indicates that our WALKIN is open, it is NOT open, please do not come to the office without speaking to one of our staff members!

We are receiving many questions about school and daycare openings.

You will find the Sick Kids Updated COVID-19 Guidance for School Reopening helpful in answering the majority of these questions.
https://www.sickkids.ca/PDFs/About-SickKids/81407-COVID19-Recommendations-for-School-Reopening-SickKids.pdf

Depending on the current status of COVID-19 in our community, a higher prevalence of the infection may change the back-to-school and daycare recommendations.

If you are concerned—please get tested. COVID-19 screening centers provide timely and accurate results for your child, and results are typically available online within 48-72 hours.

We will not be providing notes that state that your child is “okay to return to school or daycare”. The current public health recommendations are to isolate for an appropriate period of time and return when well or a negative COVID-19 test.

The Ontario Medical Association recommends against requiring doctor’s notes to clear students to return to school after suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Please refer to your local public health unit or school/daycare board for further direction and their policies on returning back to school or daycare. These policies will likely change as the school year progresses.

We will be updating the website and page when the flu shot is available this fall.

There are patients that are confused about the office. We are OPEN. We do try and help via phone calls when appropriate but many times an in-person visit is required.

We are seeing patients in the office by appointment.

Woodbridge Kids Clinic

Online Booking Now Available:

In view of Covid, we are helping patients by phone or video as has been recommended. Parents who have any questions or concerns can call the office, or alternatively can book online for a call back. If you follow the link below, you will have an option to book a time for Dr Kalwani or Cannitelli to call you back. We will give advice by phone and suggest an in-office visit if needed. We are seeing patients in the office by appointment.

We do our best to make sure that any information you give to us during virtual care visits is private and secure, but no video or audio tools are ever completely secure. There is an increased security risk that your health information may be intercepted or disclosed to third parties when using video or audio communications tools. This method of communication is not secure in the same way as a private appointment in an exam room.

To help us keep your information safe and secure, you can use a private computer/device (i.e., not an employer’s or third party’s computer/device) and a secure internet connection.

You should also understand that virtual care is not a substitute for in-person communication or clinical examinations, where appropriate, or for attending the Emergency Department when needed (including for any urgent care that may be required).

By providing your information, you agree to let us collect, use, or disclose your personal health information through video or audio communications (while following applicable privacy laws) in order to provide you with care.

If you agree with the above you can click the link. Please note that the times are approximate. Normally calls will be returned between 8am-4pm. Have your phone handy and be prepared to answer. The doctors will only try to call twice.

Please note that appointments can be booked a maximum of 12 hours in advance.

Consent for Telehealth Phone & Videoconferencing:

COVID-19 is placing stress on Canada’s public health system. Our clinic is starting to offer virtual care to make sure that we can continue to care for our patients safely and effectively. This means that we will be using video and audio technologies for some patient visits rather than asking all patients to come into our office. Some of these technologies are provided by the Province. Others have been provided by vendors like Google, or Apple to help make discussions with your care provider as easy as possible during these difficult times. Some health concerns can be addressed with virtual care alone, but in some cases your doctor may ask you to come in for a visit, go to hospital or other health care facility if necessar, for a physical examination.

We do our best to make sure that any information you give to us during virtual care visits is private and secure, but no video or audio tools are ever completely secure. There is an increased security risk that your health information may be intercepted or disclosed to third parties when using video or audio communications tools. To help us keep your information safe and secure, you can:
• • Understand that this method of communication is not secure in the same way as a private appointment in an exam room.
• • Use a private computer/device (i.e., not an employer’s or third party’s computer/device) and a secure internet connection. For example, using a personal computer or tablet is more secure than at a library, and your access to the Internet on your home network will generally be more secure than an open guest Wi-Fi connection.

You should also understand that virtual care is not a substitute for in-person communication or clinical examinations, where appropriate, or for attending the Emergency Department when needed (including for any urgent care that may be required).

If you are concerned about using video or audio tools for virtual care, you can ask our office to arrange for you to visit a different healthcare provider or other health care center where you can be seen in person. However, please note that visiting a health care provider in person comes with a higher risk of coming into contact with COVID-19 and the possibility of spreading the virus.

Please note that we are still seeing patients in the office when necessary.

By providing your information, you agree to let us collect, use, or disclose your personal health information through video or audio communications (while following applicable privacy laws) in order to provide you with care. In particular, the following means of electronic communication may be used telephone and videoconferencing (including Skype, Facetime, etc.).

COVID- 19 Update

These are challenging times. Parents should know that this corona virus outbreak remains a low risk for our patients. It presents like the normal coughs, colds and flu that we normally see. All of the current efforts, school closures, social distancing etc are all to slow the spread of the virus in order to protect the vulnerable. This group remains to be the elderly, frail and those with chronic illness. As usual, infants in the first few months should avoid exposure to any illness.

In the office, we have made changes in keeping with current recommendations and we continue to try and care for our patients in the best way possible. WE NO LONGER TAKE WALKINS. Our sick parade is cancelled until further notice. We are also cancelling all check up and non urgent visits. Children less than 18 months requiring vaccines can be seen, but even those can be delayed while we follow the progress of the outbreak. We have separated the office into well and sick rooms. For any patients that we need to see who are well, we will be bringing them into the office via a separate entrance (back door) directly into clean rooms without waiting in the waiting area. We will attempt to get you in and out of the office quickly.

If your child is ill or you have concerns, please call the office. Do NOT ask the front staff any medical questions. They are not giving advice. All questions and concerns will be dealt with directly with Dr Kalwani and Dr Cannitelli. Simply call the office and ask to be placed on the telephone call back list. The doctors will answer questions and give advice. If needed, we will advise you to come into the office. We will see sick patients by appointment only (NO WALKINS), so that we can control the flow and get patients in and out quickly. Testing for corona virus is not usually needed but there is a clinic at Mackenzie Health that we can refer patients to, if they fit the criteria.

We will monitor and update the website and social media with any changes.
