UNDERSTANDING UTERINE FIBROIDS: THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME!
Did you know that uterine fibroids can develop in different parts of the uterus?
Their location determines their classification and may influence the symptoms they cause.
Here are four common types:
1.Subserosal Fibroids: Develop on the outer surface of the uterus and may grow outward, sometimes causing pressure on surrounding organs.
2.Intramural Fibroids: Develop within the muscular wall of the uterus. They are among the most common types.
3.Submucosal Fibroids: Develop beneath the inner lining of the uterus and project into the uterine cavity. They are particularly associated with heavy menstrual bleeding and may affect fertility.
4.Pedunculated Fibroids: Grow attached to the uterus by a stalk. They can develop on the outer surface or inside the uterine cavity.
NOTE: The location, size and number of fibroids all matter. Two women may have fibroids but experience completely different symptoms.
Understanding your fibroid type is an important first step towards making informed decisions about your reproductive health.
Don't just know that you have fibroids. Understand where they are, how big they are and how they may be affecting your uterus.
Knowledge is power. Early assessment matters.
