Sherry’s battle with began with a UTI (urinary tract infection). The infection became life-threatening, landing Sherry in the ICU for three days. After being discharged, the health struggles continued. Sherry made multiple trips to the ER due to anaphylactic shock for an unknown allergic reaction and was eventually diagnosed with mast cell activation syndrome triggered by the original sepsis.

Now, Sherry takes allergy medication daily, carries an EpiPen, and follows a strict low-histamine diet. Sherry has also experienced cognitive decline, memory loss, and difficulty processing information.

📣 New here? Let’s start with the basics.

Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming response to infection. It’s a medical emergency that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death if not treated quickly.

🦠 Any infection — like from a cut, the flu, or a UTI — can lead to sepsis.
💥 It affects 1.7 million people in the U.S. each year.
⏱ Early recognition and treatment saves lives.

Jennifer went in for a routine endometrial ablation, expecting a quick recovery. Three days later, she developed a 103.6°F fever and flu-like symptoms. Concerned, she followed her doctor’s advice and went to the ER to rule out infection. She was quickly transferred to the original hospital that performed the procedure and immediately hooked up to multiple IVs.

At just 35, she underwent a life-saving hysterectomy. Jennifer survived but now lives with long-term complications from her experience. What began as a simple outpatient procedure turned into a life-altering experience. She now shares her story to raise awareness and help others recognize the signs.

At the end of her freshman year of college, Kimora was diagnosed with and throat. She was sent home with a Z-pack (antibiotics). A week later, her condition had worsened.

Despite being told to ride it out, she trusted her instincts and went to the hospital. There, she was diagnosed with sepsis and admitted immediately. Kimora spent her finals week hospitalized, fighting a life-threatening infection. Since then, her health has declined significantly, leaving her with a weakened immune system and lasting effects. She says she hasn’t felt the same since.

Kimora urges others to take their health seriously and to advocate for themselves. “If something feels wrong, it probably is and if it isn’t it’s better to be safe than sorry,” she says. Her decision to seek help when she did ultimately saved her life.
