Chemistry gets things off the ground, but deep friendship is what sustains a marriage for the long haul.

Heavy on the kind of connection where you laugh until your stomach hurts, share the quiet mundane moments without pressure, and know without a shadow of a doubt that your partner is your safest place to land. When your spouse is truly your best friend, everyday life becomes the adventure.

This is my favorite part of the day.

Standing in the kitchen, actually taking a breath, and not feeling like I'm just trying to survive until bedtime.

It sounds simple, but showing up relaxed and patient at the end of the day usually starts with how you fuel yourself earlier on. When your energy isn't crashing, it’s so much easier to laugh off the small stuff and just enjoy being with your family.

One super easy habit I’ve been loving: Greek yogurt with walnuts first thing in the morning.

Greek yogurt gives you tryptophan (the building block for serotonin, your brain's feel-good chemical), and walnuts add the healthy fats that help your body actually use it. Takes about two minutes to throw together, but it sets a totally different tone for the whole day.

Drop the word EASY in the comments and I’ll send over a simple guide with a few more daily food habits that keep your mood and energy steady. 👇

We used to give each other whatever energy was left over at the end of the day, which usually was NONE.

When you’re raising a family and managing a busy house, it’s so easy to slip into survival mode. You love your partner deeply, but by the time the sun goes down, even a gentle touch or a simple question feels like another demand on a tank that’s completely empty.

We realized we didn't need marriage counseling or longer to-do lists. We just needed energy! So we stopped leaving our mood to chance and started automating our mornings together.

What we do every single morning:

Before coffee ever touches our lips, we anchor our bodies with 30 grams of fast, easy protein. It takes literally 60 seconds in the kitchen using an automated system, and it changes the entire atmosphere of our home.

Here’s what anchoring your mornings with 30 grams of protein does:

- It turns off the silent morning panic button before breakfast.

- It stops us from taking out early-morning stress on each other or the kids.

- It leaves us with excess patience, humor, and softness for each other at night.

Closeness isn't something you force when you're exhausted. It’s something that shows up naturally in a restored body.

The reality was, I just didn't matter enough, and I never put feeding myself on the priority list.

A mid-life woman's body needs at least 30 grams of protein every single morning.

I do this to make sure my kids are getting the calm, patient, present, happy mom that they deserve and most importantly, I love who shows up.

I used to think I was just an impatient person. Turns out I was an underfed one.

The snapping at bedtime. The losing it over a glass of water. The trying so hard to be calm and kind and failing at the exact moment it mattered most. I thought that was just me.

It wasn't me. It was coffee on an empty stomach and a body running on nothing since 7am.

Here's what actually changed it.

1 — Food before caffeine. Coffee on an empty stomach spikes your blood sugar, which then crashes, and that crash is exactly when you lose it. Eat first. Every single time.

2 — Make it so easy you'd do it half asleep. I don't like eating in the morning. So I needed something quick, delicious, and done. No forcing down a disgusting protein bar. Something I'd actually do every single day without thinking.

3 — Protein first thing. When your body has what it needs in the morning, the bill doesn't come due at bedtime.

The patience you're looking for isn't a personality trait you need to develop. It's a chemistry problem you need to solve.

I used to feel like there was something wrong with me.

The reason I thought that was the feeling that I thought it was difficult being close to my chosen man, but did not understand why.

What I know now is that I loved him; it was just that the chemicals in my body that create a sense of closeness were depleted.

I thought eating last made me a good mom.

Seriously, I wore it like a badge. Everyone else got real food and I got whatever was left. By 5 PM my mental bandwidth was somewhere around negative 500, and bedtime, the one part of the day my kids had me all to themselves- they got the worst of me.

I was never a bad mom. I was an underfed one. If that’s you tonight, here are the details I promised.

1- 30 grams of protein in the morning.
In one study, women who ate a 35 gram protein breakfast had lower ghrelin (the hormone that makes you hungry) and higher PYY (the one that tells your brain you’re full) across the whole day, and they snacked less at night. For me 30 grams is 3 protein balls, or 2 and a glass of protein milk.

2- Food before caffeine.
University of Bath researchers found that strong coffee before breakfast raised people’s blood sugar response to that breakfast by about 50%. For me, a bigger spike meant a bigger drop. And in a study of 107 married couples, the lower their blood sugar was in the evening, the angrier they felt toward their spouse. So I eat first.

3- Make it so easy you’d do it half asleep.
I prep a week of breakfasts in 5 minutes on Sunday. It’s one less decision, it tastes like a treat, and I never skip.

You don’t need one more thing to do. You need someone to finally tell you why. Comment “CALM” and I’ll send my free 60-second Chemical Audit to disciover why bedtime falls apart for you, and the one step I’d start with. One step one answer and bedtime gets to be the calm part of your day again (make sure you are following )

It cost me the part of the day I loved most.

I lived for bedtime. The cuddles, hearing about their day, telling them how special they are. And night after night that was the moment I had the least to give and ended up showing up as my worst.

It took me years to see that the mom my kids got at 8 PM was decided at breakfast. I honestly thought I was doing the right thing by feeding everyone else first.

If you eat last at your house too and want the first easy step comment ‘CALM’ and I’ll send you our free 60-second audit that shows you exactly what your mornings are missing and the first thing to change so you still have something left at bedtime (make sure you are following so the audit comes through!)
