Presented by the Honda Foundation, the Honda Prize recognises achievements in science and technology that improve people’s lives and contribute to society.

🎉 Congratulations to Cara, winner of our 2026 Anders Tjellström Scholarship award. 🎉

Cara has overcome years of hearing difficulties caused by childhood ear infections and subsequent hearing loss. At the age of 15 Cara received her Osia implant which she says has opened up her world. She is a keen singer, outdoor enthusiast, and advocate for deaf inclusion, and after a gap year travelling around South Asia, she is now preparing to study medicine at Newcastle University. 🩺 Cara hopes to explore areas such as ENT and chronic pain; working towards her goal of becoming a doctor. We are proud to celebrate Cara’s resilience, determination and exciting future ahead. 👏

Diagnosed as profoundly deaf before her first birthday and implanted at age two, Melody has grown into a passionate advocate for accessibility, inclusion and sustainability. As she begins an MSc in Environmental Science, she hopes to contribute to research into global environmental challenges while championing accessibility in scientific settings. 🌍 Congratulations, Melody!
