Daily life and human movement happen in rotation, yet it is often overlooked in training. Developing rotational movement can help protect our joints, build core resilience, improve mobility, and reduce the risk of injury.
When we neglect rotation, the body may compensate by using areas such as the lower back or knees to rotate beyond what they are designed to handle. Over time, these compensations can contribute to stiffness, discomfort, and chronic pain.
Healthy rotation should be shared across the body, particularly through the hips and mid-back, rather than being forced through the lower back. When the hips or mid-back lack mobility, the lower back may take on more movement and load than it should.
Teaching the body to train in rotation will efficiently help the body activate the core for movements like walking, reaching, lifting, turning.
By learning to move well in rotation, we give the body more options to move efficiently, distribute load, and stay resilient.
