As we age, we naturally lose muscle mass, strength and bone density. But here’s the encouraging part — regular exercise can help slow many of these changes.

Strength training, walking and balance exercises can all help you stay mobile, active and independent for longer.

And you don’t need to spend hours in the gym to benefit.

The goal isn’t to exercise like you’re 25. It’s to feel capable and confident at 75.

You went to the gym this morning — brilliant.

But what happens during the other 15 waking hours matters too.

If much of your day is spent sitting, look for little opportunities to break it up: stand while you’re on the phone, walk at lunchtime, take the stairs, stretch while the kettle boils or get outside after dinner.

You don’t have to turn everything into exercise.

Sometimes your body just needs you to move more often.

Do you hear a creaking in your joints as you get older?

You can help lubricate these joints by choosing the right foods: olive oils, salmon, healthy fats. It should all form part of a healthy diet.

That little walk after dinner might be doing more for your health than you realise.

Even a short walk after eating gets your muscles working, which can help your body manage the rise in blood glucose after a meal.

And there are other benefits too: movement, fresh air, a chance to switch off and a simple way to add more activity without having to find time for another “workout”.

Ten minutes around the block still counts.

We naturally tend to lose muscle as we get older — but age isn’t a reason to stop getting stronger.

Regular resistance exercise can help maintain muscle, strength, balance and everyday function as we age.

And we’re not talking about becoming a bodybuilder.

It’s being strong enough to carry the shopping, climb the stairs, get up from the floor, enjoy your hobbies and keep doing the things you love.

Strength isn’t just about how you look. It’s about how you want to live.

Ever noticed you’re hungrier after a terrible night’s sleep?

There’s a reason. Poor sleep can affect the hormones and brain pathways involved in hunger, appetite and food choices — which can make high-energy, highly palatable foods considerably more tempting the following day.

So if you’re trying to improve your nutrition but constantly battling cravings, don’t only look at what’s on your plate.

Start by looking at your sleep.

Strength training supports healthy muscles, stronger bones, better balance and greater independence as we age.

The secret isn’t doing everything perfectly. It’s showing up, staying consistent and continuing to challenge yourself.

Your future self will thank you.

I think most of us have had this. A sudden wave on anxiety that seemingly comes from nowhere.

Here’s a really simple tip from Toni on how to get back in control really quickly.

Building strength isn’t about lifting the heaviest weight or doing the hardest workout. It’s about gradually asking your body to do a little more than it did yesterday.

Exercises like this strengthen your core, arms and shoulders while improving stability and control.

Progress doesn’t come from perfection—it comes from consistently stepping outside your comfort zone.
