What does training to failure look like?
I've trained in a lot of gyms over the years, and I would say most people don't train to failure. I'm not advocating this all the time on every lift, but if you want to get stronger, build muscle and see progression, you're going to have to push to failure at some point.
I appreciate how this can be scary, but this is where gyms are wonderful places. There's always somebody who's willing to offer you help.
Time and time again. I see people lifting the same weight week after week with no intensity or effort which just isn't going to get you results.
I like to use the 'rate of perceived exertion' and 'reps in reserve' with my clients.
In this video I talk about disaster; 10 out of 10 effort or no reps in reserve is complete di saster. You'll see here I probably had one more rep left, but without a spotter I didn't want to injure myself or drop a dumbbell on my head 🤣
Next time you're training, put your brain into it as well as your muscles and think about the amount of effort you're actually exerting.
Chances are if it looks pretty it's not heavy enough 😏
